I have a .30 YHM can that I’m gonna put on one of my AK’s. Which one is the best fit for a YHM stainless .30 can? These are SBRs in the 11-12” range 1. Draco 2.PSA AK P7 3.PSA AK-104 4. PSA KS-47 Full size AK 5. PSA GF3 16” ETA- i’ll probably dedicate this can to one AK, so which one? Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Well, the KS-47 is not an AK. So you can rule that one out. Of the others, I'd start by looking at how you plan on attaching the can to the gun. You've got a few different thread pitches there. Then probably rule out the romanian cause the threads most likely aren't concentric. The US made barrels are more better for mounting the suppressor straight. I'd probably rule out any of the PSA ones with the hinged top cover. On mine, the top cover is mounted to the hinge with a screw. Under recoil, the cover slides back on the screw and locks up tight against the rear trunnion. A suppressor will exacerbate that. And interestingly enough, there was a thread on the akfiles in the part week or so with a romanian draco just like that one that was beating itself to smithereens after the guy put a suppressor on it. The receiver and rear trunnion are both trashed. I guess they're already a bit gassy and the can made it worse. |

Modern non-baffle cans (I believe Huxwrx has patented or at least trademarked the phrase "flow through") reduce backpressure immensely. KNS makes adjustable gas pistons that help reduce backpressure if you prefer a quieter can. I've also seen people drill out the top portion of the gas block (not all the way through to the barrel) just enough for a set screw to be threaded in, then they drill different diameter holes in various set screws and sort out which one allows the best cycling with the lowest risk of being overgassed and leave that one in (blue loctite helps of course). Loads of options. Just don't use a ducking recoil buffer.

Grab a WBP with the FB barrel (very well made bbls that tend to be concentric), I’d also get a KNS piston for whatever you plan to use. It lets you adjust the gas and it bypasses the gas ports on most gas tubes. It’ll help keep things a little bit more quiet.
