Just got my FDE 103 Side folder (with 10 mags). I am satisfied with the weapon. Light. Tight. Looks GTG...except the finish. How do I put this...terrible. I haven't fired it, cycled it or even taken the plastic pieces off...the selector lever is already silver facing away from the gun. I check my MAK90 from the 90s with thousands and thousands of rounds and a life time of abuse. It's still black. The button that holds the receiver cover? Has more silver showing than my MAK. Already with me never taking the cover off. This isn't an issue with the particular weapon I received being a problem (except it came without the cleaning rod despite add saying it had one...I am assuming PSA will take care of that). This is a case of PSA needing to change to a different finish. What they're using isn't acceptable. |

Other than that i dont really see any glaring finish issues. IIRC the 103 GF3’s do come with the cleaning rods per their site. The regular non 103 gf3 does not. Agree on the finish. Mine looks the same as the OP’s and I’m actually impressed with the finish. Although I have owned arsenals In the past  Norinco ak finish is more a blued finish and not a coating. |

No part on any of the dozen PSA ARs I own is showing exposed metal. Th AK arrived exposed. |

nothing wrong with that. it's an AK; go have fun shooting it. stop comparing oranges to apples (it's not an AR, and it's not a black oxide finished MAK90) hope you get your $10 cleaning rod though |

Out of the ak’s I’ve owned the finish is only second to the norinco. Arsenal being the worst. Think it’s just nature of the beast with ak’s. Mine doesn’t have any more wear than yours and I’m at the 500rd mark. |

If your AR arrived w/o a dust cover it wouldn't speak highly of the company offering a rifle. |

IMO a cleaning rod isn’t anything to get angry about. I can definitely tell that you really haven’t owned an AK before. (That’s not a negative against you) but you just have the AR “perfectionist” mindset. Understand with an AK nothing is truly “drop in” and in some cases you might not get a cleaning rod with the gun. Not having a cleaning rod isn’t a show stopper. It’s gonna be fine. Edit: you’ll also NEVER use that steel cleaning rod to actually clean the barrel. Look at it like extra weight that you don’t need my man. |

Contacted by CS I'm pleased again. Was I complaining about anything major? I have acknowledged the entire time I have not. Now for the folks saying no big deal...I received a new rifle with exposed metal. That alone deserves comment. For those interested the rifle itself looks awesome finish and all. The problem is on the auxiliary parts. They must be finished differently. Do not take this thread as a warning not to purchase. I will be continuing to purchase weapons, including AKs, from them as long as their pricing model remains what it is. I would like to point out that part of the finishing process is less than perfect. I do not want to shit talk the company and that is why this thread was posted here and not GD. It's an AK (and far from my only one) and I'm going to beat the shit out of it like the others. I just wanted to be the one scraping finish off. |
