I built some VW air cooled engines in my youth. The first one was not so good. I had all the right parts but, let's face it, I was not an auto mechanic. I learned by trial and error. Mostly error. Not trying to put you builder guys down but in discussions you say you have this or that AK and you are discussing a problem. Then later you reveal you bought a part kit (of that type of AK) and put it together yourself. Those kits by law must contain a certain percentage of American components. So, what do you have, really? You have a partial AK of the type you mention. And you have an amateur gun smith who put it all together, you. So, for instance, if you bought an AK 104 parts kit and put it together yourself, how can you possibly compare it to a factory made AK 104? Or even say you have an AK 104? I know, you are going to tell me your mechanical ability is far superior to the guys in the factory, each doing one job, on an assembly line. And there are talented people among you, no doubt. But roll-your-own VW engines are called "rebuilds". And they are not worth the kind of money a factory built engine is worth. OK, hit me, what is wrong with my reasoning? |
