| What's the bad about the DPMS Anvil AK pistol? |

They are decent for the price but people complain about not using swellneck rivets and the barrel being nitride so long term or heavier use wear it out faster but I don't know. My gf3 has had a couple stove pipes and I needed to drift my front sight all the way to zee but so far it's been good. I think it's a good way for PSA to sell AKs to shops. I rarely see any PSA products at shops but I've seen a couple Anvils. It competes with VSKAs and WASRs for the basic locally bought options. |

If you want to shoot the gun the rivets are just fine. Nitride is a very good process and makes for long lasting barrels. In semi auto you probably won't shoot the barrel out without doing FRT mag dumps for years. I have yet to notice any deterioration running a nitride barrel on my machine gun. Nitride is also known to be more resistant to corrosion and to be more accurate than chrome lines due to better consistency of the surface. Nitride is essentially a treatment where chrome is a plating and platings can be difficult to lay perfect in a tube. The VSAK is garbage. Avoid the VSAK and RAS-47. WASR is G2G. |

Swell necks aren't a purest thing but I understand not worrying on a semi auto. Also wasn't recommending the VSKA but that's what the dpms is competing against. It's PSAs way to get there AKs in shops and wasr/VSKA/DPMS usually hover around the 7-1000 price range. I definitely will shoot out my PSA 101 nitride barrel if nothing breaks beyond repair. I hear 10k rounds so I'm almost halfway there in 2 years and barely take it to the range. A guy that doesn't have many guns but likes to shoot will easily shoot out a nitride barrel. Eta-not on topic but I see nitride wear to bare metal fairly easy on wear parts. Maybe something like a nitride BCG is different though. |

Its essentially case hardening vs plating of chrome. This makes it better in various ways but dimensional stability is a primary one. A nitrided surface is already "down to bare metal". What you are seeing is whatever coating, paint, blue, etc wearing off. I run stuff hard. Without overheating a barrel I have yet to damage one. Even in FA and as we know, FA is about the worst thing you can do to a firearm. It beats things to death. It burns out barrels way faster than SA every could, it breaks receivers, you name it. By the time you burn out a barrel, nitride or chrome lined and use brass or steel case ammo you really are not really saving any money. I'll take accuracy/consistency and a cheaper barrel, especially if I gotta swap it out with regularity in an AK. As a shooter nitride is a better barrel. If you are just blasting, doubting competition with a PSA 101 as I almost never compete with other AK shooter and have shot a Saiga in competition for the past decade, it doesn't really matter so you might as well get the cheapest one. I've seen AKs built with roll pins and screws. A goofy rivet won't matter. It will not affect safety in any way as the bolt locks to the trunnion which has the barrel pressed in. You could lock a bolt into a trunnion with barrel (head spaced) in a vise and smack the firing pin with a hammer and nothing interesting will happen. |

I don't get stuff too hot and it's cheap enough to replace anyway. I have broken more stuff on my PSA AKs compared to any of my others but nothing major and I shoot them the most. I got them to be beaters. I'd still get a wasr over any of my PSA's if I'm starting over. A DPMS roll mark would be cool though. |
| Common AKM’s like Romy’s have 6 rivets in the front trunnion. Exactly 2 of them are swell neck types….. so- are they better to have to lock into the sheet metal better- absolutely. Are you ever likely to notice one way or another? Depends on how big the holes were made in the receiver and how much you shoot the gun…. |
a loaded gun won’t set you free, so you say…
