I got a 30 round. 7.62x39 Circle-10 magazine from a pawn shop (i got it for $10 cuz they had no idea what it was  )Well im having problems loading it. Every 3 rounds i load, or try to, one of the rounds scoot so far forward that it blocks me from loading the mag any further untill i unload and fix it. I also cant explain it but it feels weird when i load it. Kinda feels like it doesnt want to be loaded, like i said i cant explain it really or at least i cant figure out how to explain the issue. Has anyone else had these problems? Also i bought a metal mag, im assuming its steel but idk. Theres this metal spine all the way down the back of the mag, its extremely uncomfortable to hold because of it. Is that normal for metal AK mags? |

Have you disassembled the mag to see if there is anything wrong with the spring or follower? Can you take a thin stick, like a wooden ruler or paint stirrer and push the follower all the way down without it binding? I always load AK mags with the spine facing away from me and angled down somewhat. I can't imagine a round wanting to move forwards using this technique. Are you loading by hand or with a tool? Steel AK mags with a spine are the standard design. I know some prefer flat-back Chinese AK mags, but I don't see how the spine can hurt your hand? Are you holding the mag instead of the fore end when you shoot? |

Im loading by hand, bullet tip facing me so i can push them in and back easier. I only have polymer mags its my first time buying metalbak mags. I filed the spine down a bit cuz there were some sharp edges on it. So that problem has been fixed. Ill disassemble the mag later when im home and try to push the follower with a dowel I never knew that spine was standard, as i said i only have polymer mags. Magpul specifically cuz thats what my AK came with so i stocked up on em. |

First of all, great find! I've also gotten lucky and found a few (10) 30 and 40 rounders for dirt cheap but never as low as $10 each! I thought I was the only one that had this issue! I've had all kinds of AK mags do this, including (10)s and surplus steel. I think the taper of the 7.62x39 round combined with the angle of the current round being inserted is what causes the already seated round to slide forward. Its worse when you push the round down just before the feedlips and then slide it in rest of the way. This is why I prefer to "slam" the rear bottom edge of the mag down on a hard but padded surface down the same time I push the next round directly down, instead of push down and slide it in. Its annoying but it doens't affect function. As long as your mag isn't causing stovepipes and double feeds (As long as its a genuine (10) not those ProMag knockoffs) then it is fine. Don’t push ammo “in and back”. Rifle double feed type mags top load- not like a single feed design pistol mag. Hold round directly above/between the feed lips, with just enough room that it will miss the back edge of the mag body. Then push directly down. Stop sliding the rounds in. That isn’t how they are meant to be loaded (it is how they are unloaded by the rifle when firing though). If you do miss when top loading, and the projectile is too far forward, you can slide it back a bit to clear the front edge of the mag. Sounds like this is what is happening with the OP. Probably just doing it wrong if it is happening a lot. Look at how stripper clips feed into an AR mag. Now emulate that by hand. AK’s are the same. |

I've been loading AK mags this way since 1985 and never had the problems described in this thread. |
