This came from Lumpy, it shows an older Type III AK-47 that's been updated with synthetics stocks and the slot for the sling swivel on the receiver filled in. Iraqi National Guard.

| I'm not sure, but maybe their special forces has the ability to choose what they want to be equiped with. Of all the pictures I've seen they seem to like the milled AK and GP30 type grenade launcher. As for the South African R5 I heard they were part of shipment to another Eastern block country, maybe Estonia, that the Serbs confiscated. |
| I'm not sure that the destruction caused by Nato airstrikes is the reason. For example, the M-92 kits that are going to be built into SEAK III are all brand new and post 2000 firearms. Serbia relies on cash generated by exports from its fine weapons industry so I'm sure they've been rebuilt since the war. |

As far as the removal of the rear stock.... My friend says that the Iraqis that he was around don't like them. They don't usually aim their rifles anyaway, he says. They just "spray and pray.' I've read that the 90 degree gas block was adopted because it worked better with the 5.45 caliber of the ak-74. I wonder if it adds any benefit at all to 7.62 rifles. |
Very true. In 5.45mm, the 45* block was sometimes stripping jacket materical off the bullet causing a loss in accuracy, that's one reason they went with the 90* block. Also, drilling down into the barrel at a 90* angle usually caused them to miss the lands and come in on the grooves. |

Does anyone know if the AKs being used by the ING with the 45 degree gas block and synthetic furniture have the trap door in the butt stock for the cleaning kit? Getting my SA93 re-done to look just like that but I couldn't tell by any of the photos what the rear of the butt stock looked like. Also, what do the bayonets that are being issued for these rifles, if any, look like? I hope to have pics up of the finished product in the next week or so....

Here's some from my tour in Iraq... These were what we issued to the Sadr City IPs...  Training the IPs...  Oops...that one is East German...  Then I got this guy who couldn't hit the paper and told me his brand new Bulgarian AK was broken, I took it and aimed at an unused target and cracked off a few rounds...  And here I am with my fat faced shit eating grin..

Iraqi National Guard. Look at those milled AK's! Same photo, but uncropped:  I don't know much about this one, other than it was supposedly taken in Iraq. It looks a lot like an SA M7 Classic, doesn't it? Sorry the pic is so crappy.  The same photo twice. The top photo is the original; the second photo is what I lightened in Photoshop to show that it is, indeed, a Bulgarian AK.

(bottom 7.62 AR) Looks like those wacky 'raqi Armorers left the lower stock screw 3/4 way out and forgot to close down the retaining lever. But hey..... it should take a lot more than that to stop one of these from going bang-bang-bang.
