So I saw that Atlantic Firearms had a 2 pack of "bakelite style" mags and I figured why not I'll give it a try. I figured for 40 bucks it wouldn't hurt. So I ordered them. https://atlanticfirearms.com/ak47-bakelite-style-mag-2-pack- Now I just got them in today and did a visual check. Here it is in the packaging. According to the packaging they're from Korea. https://imgur.com/a/6oCXzfp I opened it up and stuck it in my AK. It fits really well I will say. https://imgur.com/a/CwFEfB6 I will say that the mags look like they're kind of a cheap plastic. The follower and floor plate are metal. Most likely aluminum. I'm satisfied with how they look. I unfortunately don't have the real thing to compare it to. I will have to do a function test later when I have more ammunition. |

A couple years back, I believe it was atlantic firearms who had some fakelite mags come in and extended a very generous offer. They sent some out to forum members for free in exchange for unbiased and public opinions of them. I took them up on the offer. The results were fairly unanimous across everybody that was a part of that. The mags were functional in that they locked into guns and would feed ammo. They looked half decent to look the part for instagram pictures. But when but beside real bakelite mags, they looked too orange. The real kick in the balls was how fragile the mags were. In many cases, 1 drop was enough to make them physically break into pieces. I'm not sure if these are the same fakelite mags as what you've got. If they are, then they are really only good for taking photos. Or I guess range mags if you're gonna baby them. ETA - Yep, it was atlantic firearms. There's a thread over on the akfiles with pictures of these cracking when dropped. Here's some pictures of mine, before the destructive testing, compared with some real bakelites and some other fakelites and brown magazines.
