Has anyone tried to successfully modify a Chinese SKS FSB to accept an AK47 style muzzle detent and spring?

Not an SKS.

However I did mod a Mac 90 FSB to accept a spring and detent.  Two pins hold the FSB on.  Tap the forward one out.   Drill the hole, (slowly… and checking depth)   Install spring and detent,  tap fwd pin back into place.
