Thinking about picking up a PSA AK-102, and am leaning toward one of the rifles, such as This one instead of one of the braced pistols. If I get the rifle and decide I want to SBR it, how much hassle would it be to have the pinned/welded extended booster removed? I honestly don’t know if I would SBR it or not - I weirdly like the look of the extended booster…

I order the 105 when they first came out and that version was the only thing available (Rifle w/ PW). After I SBR'd it, cutting off the booster was pretty easy, but it was destroyed. My 102 is the pistol version (I just SBR'd it). You can go either way to suit your needs. But I don't think you'll like the extended booster for long. And why loose 3 1/2" of barrel just for that booster? The bigger issue in my opinion: If you go pistol and SBR it, you can always go back to a Pistol for non-NFA purposes (ie: out of State travel without permission. Need to sell it without NFA hassle). If it's a Rifle and SBR'd, you'd have to re-pin and weld it to get it back to a non-NFA gun. Once a rifle, always a rifle. A pistol can go to rifle and back to pistol. |
