RMA has long been a composite hard armor manufacturer, boasting five NIJ Certified hard armor plates. But to meet the need and demand of  so many who have asked, is RMA's limited edition Level III+ base coat steel series armor plate. This is a steel, Level III+ 1012 plate with a base coat that boasts a 10% increase in ballistic core hardness over an AR500 plate. That means our level III+ AR550 armor defeats higher velocity threats, such as XM193 and M855, plus M80 NATO and 7.6239 to name a few.
With a core hardness of approximately 545-560 BHN, we have found our  ballistically rated variant of AR550 that we use is perfect for defeating higher velocity threats, while not exposing the armor plate to extreme stress due to forming.
