http://www.france24.com/en/20150629-france-melissa-mayeux-baseball-major-league-yankees-teen

Meet Melissa Mayeux, the 16-year-old French baseball player hoping
to smash the gender barrier in America's Major League Baseball.

Melissa Mayeux is looking forward to a very busy summer on the baseball diamond.

Starting on June 29, the French teen will participate in a four-day
hitting camp in Germany, organized by Major League Baseball (MLB).  She
will then take her place on France’s national baseball team (in which
she is the only woman) at the under-18 European baseball championship in
the Czech Republic. Next up is the women’s European softball
championship, in which the teenager represents France at the senior
level. And in August, she will be one of only four French players taking
part in MLB's European Elite Camp in the Netherlands.

If that wasn’t enough, she will be fielding the myriad media requests
that are likely to trail her following last week’s news that she has
become the first-ever female baseball player to be added to MLB's
international registration list – making her eligible to be signed by a
pro club in the United States as early as July 2.

FPNI.

No doubt she's very good.  But she won't get into the majors without some "help", ie, special treatment.

We've done this before.  Google "Colorado Silver Bullets".  Woman's all-star team, set up in the early '90s to show that women could compete with men.

I remember they played a bunch of AAA all-stars in an exhibition game.  It wasn't even close, something like 20-3.

Designate out.

Good luck to her, but I don't think she'll be able to hit an MLB fastball out of the infield. Guys who took 'roids couldn't do it more than three times out of ten.

There have been people hired for express reason that were very fast runners.  They would go in as a Pitch Runner and steal a base or two and score.  Just ask the 2004 Yankees about Game 4 of the Playoffs.

Wasn't an indictment of JR, just saying the first female that even walks on the field will get the same treatment. Only there is a good chance they'll be a shit player.

I honestly thought Enos Slaughter's daughter was going to be the first woman to get a shot at the majors.  She did play college baseball with the men for at least one season that I know of.  There was some media buzz about her having a shot in the mid-1970s because of her moving from the women's softball team to the men's baseball team.  I do know that she was one helluva good ballplayer thanks to her dad's instruction

But I lost track of her shortly afterwards and really haven't heard anything about her until I heard that last year she'd married her old boyfriend from junior high and high school.  Which surprised me because I would have bet the house that they were going to get married by age 23 the way they were attached to each other in school.

Baseball is a very humbling sport.

I have seen many, many, dominating male players (at a given level) be reduced to ineffectiveness by the

ever-increasing demands put upon them as they attempt to rise from the ranks of high school to college to minors and

maybe even eventually the Majors (for a select and lucky few).

To even suppose that this 16yo girl could aspire to compete and thereby achieve such an advancement is ludicrous.

While it may seem like quite the romantic idea, in actuality,

it simply aint gonna happen.   Dream on.

Yeah, take Serena Williams.  Sure she's a physical specimen for sure, but she'd lose to the lowest rank male pro tennis player.  Hell, she'd lose to the average NCAA male tennis player too, and in embarrassingly one-sided matches.

The US women's soccer team had a scrimmage against the under-17 American boys' team.  They lost to the under-17 boys 7-3.

Let's stop pretending that women can compete in athletic competitions against men.

No there isn't. An average male runner is still faster than the fastest women. That's why the world record is nearly a full second slower for women in the 100M, and that was set by a woman who many believe was on steroids. The men's college record is 1.64 seconds faster than the women's 100M record. In sprinting or stealing bases, that might as well be an hour.

Is that true?

I honestly thought the women's team would have fared much better than that.  The women's US team is the best in the world, soccer isn't anywhere near as popular for males in the US as other sports, and it relies on more aerobic fitness and skill and strength...I would think those factors would have given the women's team a perfect opportunity to pull out a win.
