dec 16 will be my first uspsa match ive ever been to, i have a question that cant wait till then. i have a 4in 9mm xd, so if i was to try shoot this gun in production division, do they have other divisions (sub vs sub, 4in vs 4in etc) for smaller barreled guns then the full size production pistol? i no that the book talks about sub comps in it. i just dont remember reading anything in the book about this question i have. so i have my xd with me on dec 16th, when im shooting against other guys will their guns be the same as mine? or do i just handicap myself slightly by shooting a 4in pistol instead of a fullsize? thank you

If it's a local match, I doubt you'll see to many people there with dedicated match guns.  Most people run what they have.  You can shoot either Production (which limits you to 10 rds in the mag) or Limited.  I'd stick with production, Limited is mostly Single Action high caps, like STI, etc.

Don't worry too much about being competitive your first match, use it as a learning experience.  Figure out how the game is played. Watch the other shooters, see what kind of gear they're running, little tricks they use on certain stages, etc.

If they have a TX star, don't ever shoot the bottom targets first.

There is no differentiation for Bbl lengths within class.  Shoot production.  And like the first response, be a sponge.

bring your 4" and sign up and have fun.

Tell the Range officers at each stage, you are new to uspsa, and they will help you along.

Bring as many mags and mag pouches as you can.

Do you shoot USPSA up here?  I show most of the matches this summer out at Birchwood.  Haven't been to any of the indoor ones yet.

In Fairbanks, yeah.  Haven't been to one in a while.  Was deployed all summer and since they moved to the indoor matches they've all been scheduled on weekends I worked.

Focus on being safe and having fun. All the gun stuff will figure itself out. Be sure to let the RO know you are new. They'll put you at the back so you can watch others run the course.

Bring more ammo than you think you'll need.
