I have been shooting infrequently at various competition shoots (IDPA and USPSA).   I have been using my XMD 5.25 to a fair degree of success (IDPA Sharp Shooter).  However, I want to take it to the next level.  I have some time to build up some funds and work on the fundamentals.  However, I think a heavier gun would help.  I was thinking the CZ custom Accu Shadow.  Any reason not to buy this?  Its a serious (for me) investment.  Are there alternatives? Any reason not to shoot production class?

Any help would be appreciated.

Production "division" is dominated by the glock 34, but there always seems to be the latest fad pistol.Right now. I believe the tanfoglio stock 2, is the cats ass.A few years ago, your xdm 5.25, was the gun that instantly made you a winner.I would try as many as you can, and go from there.I have a shadow, and it does not hold me back, when i am shooting production.

If you can afford the Accushadow, then who am I to tell you no?

But you're better off shooting more matches.  And you're better off buying reloading equipment and components.  And you're also better off doing more dryfire with the gun you already have.  Nothing wrong with the XDM.

You can make GM with almost any gun on the production list.

You can't buy better performance.

Appreciate everyone's responses.

I do have a press and load my own.
I also just bought three of Ben Stogoer's books last week and am making my way through them.

I'll just put some more time behind the trigger for now.

I think you could take the gun you are using to a fairly high level, but I would not try to talk you out of the CZ.  Have you looked at the CZCustom Spo1?  That would save you several hundred bucks for ammo and still is a great gun.

Appreciate the input.
I do really like my XDM for the adjustable sights and put  a PRP trigger in it....so, I shoot it decently for where I am at with my skill set.

I also bought a stock SP01 recently based on their reputation.  I don't have a ton of rounds through it, but so far my impression is that the stock trigger is not the best IMO (I am a trigger snob).

CZCustoms or Cajun Gun Works can work magic with that CZ trigger.

If you are an ESP SS, your gun is not holding you back.

Unless you just want a reason for a new gun, spend that money on dryfire props, match fees, and burning powder during range practice.

Make your practice structured to get quicker improvement. Just going to the range and doing whatever crosses your mind is not very beneficial.

I just bought a CZ Custom SP01 Shadow with their trigger refinements and that gun can take you all the way.  Do a trigger job on yours...

Just to expand on my previous comment (and to pat myself on the back a little )... I shot a Tier 2 IDPA match last weekend as a SS ESP. I had 2 bad stages, 4 mediocre stages, 3 good stages, and one great stage (1st of 154). I was  one out of a match bump to Expert. I did that with a stock RIA TAC 9mm.

That SA is not stopping you from Master, much less Expert.

Impressive.

I agree with you and the other commenters.
I bought a shot timer yesterday....I need to get some real practice in.

PSA:  as of the time I am posting this, Amazon has the pocket pro ii on sale at $107 shipped.
This is as cheap as I have been able to find it. It's usually around $125 on Amazon per camelcamelcamel.

My teammate has been shooting a shadow custom recently with success in ssp/production. Once you get past the DA trigger on the first shot, he flies with it.  Both of us could pull idea master times with our g34s though.

muscle memory practice and skill set are important, but many beginning competitors overlook the mental game... get the Lanny Bassham video on the mental game of competitive shooting, and especially read the "Inner Game of Tennis" by Timothy Gallwey (just mark out where it says tennis and insert shooting)  if you are dominant left eye, many of the aspects you do naturally, but as a right hand right eye dominant shooter these helped me make Limited Master with a .45 single stack... granted, it was many years ago...as a Super Senior, I just have fun now and enjoy the company of friends  Les L747
