I caught your post in the reloading section too, I linked you to the NJ Highpower page.
If you have the Stoney Pointe tool, you could sample several bullets and get an idea of you cartridge length to touch lands with several bullet designs. Then you could see which ones give you a decent seating depth and case fill volume relationship for your particular chamber reamer. Some VLD designs have a very different ogive and you could find that different brands and designs are very different in terms of seating to the lands. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding the recipe for performance if you do a work-up carefully. No reason to use anything other than Varget or RE-15. Pick about 24 grains of either one, seat a Sierra 77 or 80 and practice. There's your load development. |

True, but doesn't hurt to ask to see if others have used it and if it worked well or not. My understanding is that the two are supposed to be product improved versions of the R15.

It might be –– buy a pound of each and try it.
I've shot three or four 8-pounders of Varget and like it better than Reloader 15, VV N135, and Tac. I've had friends who shot 4895 and 4064, but it seems Varget is the "Go-to" powder. 24 is about the middle I shoot with 73s, 75s, and 77s. I shoot 24.5 with a Tubb Carrier Weight, and have used up to 25 with 80-grainers for the 600. |

I'll have to start a bit lower and work them up. I really don't want to "hot rod" the loads. My bullets should be in Tuesday, so I can start working on these soon. I have a match on the 25th and will use some 77's that a buddy gave me to get running. Mark |

Lake City for the short lines, Winchester commercial for 600. The commercials have just a tiny bit more capacity, plus I can sort them easier.

Do not spend too much time on load development. Hone every aspect of your prone position and wind reading. I have seen AMU team members shoot 197 on a windy day with Black Hills ammo with 77 SMK.

I called Hornady for their data on the 80 AMAX and R15 20.4-23.5, 2300-2650 velocity bracket. .020 was the suggested jump. I loaded 22, 22.5, 23 and 23.5, 23.5 was the most accurate at an average of 2614. No pressure signs and counting a called shot(5) group was 1.7, without .985. I might load up another set of 23.5 and possible 23.8, a buddy has that load and has no issues.
Tested rested on a pack, irons of course. Now if I could hit on the standing off hand!

Thats a 300 yard reduced 600 F Class target
Florida mirage Scope was Weaver T36 That was 2K rounds ago With over 4K down te tube she will not do that any more She will still shoot a low 140 something with a 15 rd string |

A common load is 24.0 RE15 for 75-80. With the loads you mentioned, I'm not the least surprised there were no pressure signs. I'm sure Hornady's data is at their OAL for the 80 AMAX, not a measured one. |
