EAS is a Federal system and any changes, such as the addition of additional alert codes like the most recent BLU and SQW codes, requires FCC approval through the rule making process. Obviously our clueless legislators think they can force changes to EAS at the state level. For example, if they decided that "GUN" (which would violate the code naming convention like BLU already does), manufacturers would have to be convinced to add it to their decoder hardware. Good luck telling manufacturers they cannot sell their Federally approved hardware/software in New York State.

Ironic how NYS constantly wants to piggy-back onto Federal Systems while demanding autonomy from Federal Regulations and Laws....Dumb fucks thought they'd attach their ammunition background checks to the NICS system until they were told no fucking way, Jose.
