I think FDR's house is 30+ miles north in Hyde Park.

The is the county run range - Blue Mountain Sportsman Center, but you might need a pick me up after you go there, due to the very restrictive shooting rules.

There is also a (private) trap/skeet club...maybe one of our members here is a member there, in Chappaqua...it is called the Mt. Pleasant Sportsman Shooting Club.

Yeah I have been to the FDR museum, it's a bit North of the area I will be working in.

I wasn't planning on going to do any actual shooting... didn't bring any guns (hmm, there's still time to pack something)

Downtown White Plains has had a rebirth in the last 4-5 years. . .there are several bar/grills along Mamaroneck Ave that seem to have quite a scene if you're single. . . even if you aren't there are some places that have a nice beer selection. . .

There is a big-ass movie multiplex down at the northern end of Mamaroneck Ave as well. . . .as far as stores go, there is very good REI over in Yonkers––google it. . . new shopping center up on top of a big rocky outcropping adjacent to I-87. . they rape you on parking though. . .like a minimum of $3. . .

You could come down to Mamaroneck itself. . . there are a bunch of very good restaurants on the downtown main ave––-Mamaroneck Ave––yeah, it's the same road––-goes all the way up into WP. . .SmashBurger, (just opened, affordable family place,  very good burgers AND they have beer!) Molly Spillanes (very fun place––bar/grill), Franky and Fanucci's (thin crust pizza is very good). . . free parking after 6pm. . cool little town, they don't allow any tall buildings downtown, so the main business district kinda looks like a little town out west from the 50's. . .diagonal parking and all. . .

Edit: Planning to check out the West Point Museum.

Excellent choice. The Ossining/WP area sucks donkey balls.

If you have some extra free time you might want to check out the Sing-Sing Prison Museum exhibit at the community center. I would call first though. Disclaimer: I've never been there.

Stopped at;

Harriman Army-Navy
186 Rt 17M
Harriman, NY 10926

It was pretty much a disappointment.  They do have a decent tactical flashlight section and a wide range of holsters but prices are high and no other firearms stuff to speak of.

Turns out there are two army/navy stores in Pearl River:  Mel's, which I found pretty boring (just clothing) and Central, which had promise but I didn't find too much there to buy.  Prices were a little high as well.

The West Point museum was great though
