I plan to. Having a WNYer as governor would be great but at a minimum having a WNYer be the nominee would be good at showing the state gop that RINO downstaters are not wanted

A poll from this week has it a statistical dead heat between Palidino and Lazio.

This recent story shows some of the differences between them.

Syracuse, NY –– Rick Lazio walked into the Onondaga County Republican Committee’s annual clambake ten minutes before it ended.

A few people were nursing their drinks in the dark and the other candidates were gone.

Lazio walked confidently up to the television cameras and summarized his race against Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor in the November election. As always, Lazio breezed by the fact that he has to first win Tuesday’s Republican primary.

Hours earlier, when there were still people and clams, Carl Paladino stopped at each table to shake hands and ask people to vote for him instead.

By the time he left, many in the crowd of loyal Republicans said they were afraid to say out loud how they planned to mark their ballots Tuesday.

Why does the term "empty suit" keep running through my mind?  Lazio has always appeared to be more fluff than substance.  This reported incident seems to confirm that.  If Lazio is the designated candidate, you will see a landslide for Cuomo.

Was leaning his way already. Now it's a done deal.Still don't know enough about some of the other candidates for various positions.

This is exactly the sort of shit that pisses people off.  Rick Lazio was anointed by the senile old fools running the state GOP.  He has made no effort to connect with the average registered Republican, let alone with the average New Yorker.  I'm not a big Paladino fan, but at least he makes something of an effort to get people to vote for him.

It's a real shame about Lazio. I first met him while he was campaigning in the late 80s/early 90s. He was walking through my friend's neighborhood, knocking on doors and we just happened to be outside working on my friend's car. He seemed pretty genuine but so does a rookie until the grind of the job takes its tolll. I'm not saying I'm a fan or that I ever voted for him. Too bad he doesn't hold the same values as me, he seemed like a guy wanting to do the right thing. Maybe he was before working in politics jaded him? Still, you can't show up in the last few minutes of a supporter rally and expect to earn votes.

BTW Can we stop with the Upstate-Downstate bullshit?!? I am so sick of defending my home to 'fellow' New Yorkers! I swear, sometimes you guys are as bad as the hunters who can't support owning firearms for any other purpose.

I just got spammed by professional spammers for Paladino.

Whoever told their campaign that this was a good idea is going to be responsible for losing a lot of votes.

How does the GOP pick candidates anyway? If you hang around long enough they make you draw straws.  Who ever loses has to run?

The state GOP-ers are like the Scottish nobles in Braveheart that turned their backs on William Wallace at the critical moment.

Gary Bernsten is a solid pro-gunner running for Schumer's seat.  The three guys running for Gilibrand's seat are tougher to distinguish...I went with David Malpass.

Hopefully, I'll be cracking open a nice cold beer and listening to Carl's victory speech while the clueless GOP leaders are shitting themselves for picking Lazio.

Holy shit, I grabbed this from the Times Herald Record. Little Ricky just might get sent to his bedroom with out supper tonight:

Primary election results are just beginning to trickle in across the Hudson Valley and Catskills, but governor candidate Carl Paladino has already jumped out to a lead in Ulster County by a 3-1 margin.

With nearly half the precincts reporting in Ulster, Paladino is leading Rick Lazio for the Republican line by a 2,002-691 tally.
