So just when I had lost all hope of getting my permit until 2012 I received a letter today from Sheriff John M. York of Livingston county.
Dear Mr. Rich219,
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office will be happy to process both your and your father's pistol permit applications. We have been in contact with Ontario County Clerk's Office and they are forwarding us your application immediately. Should we have any questions or concerns once we have received and reviewed your applications we will contact you. Sincerely, John M. York Sheriff Two weeks ago I sent him a letter describing our situation and asked him to transfer our applications in. I was expecting a "No" response but I was pleasantly surprised during today's trip to the mailbox. As of now this is a big +2 for the good guys. As mentioned in my other rant threads my Dad and I were both rejected due to moving out of Ontario county. Hopefully all goes as planned (and quickly) and I have a permit by Fall.

Livingston County Clerks Office is a pleasure to deal with, too. Very pleasant and helpful unlike most local government workers. The best thing is they let you pre-purchase your green coupons (I think up to 3 at a time) and give you a 10 day grace period to get to the clerks office to have the gun officially added after you take possession with your pre-purchased coupon. Makes it really nice to go to a show fill out the coupon with the S/N hand it to the FFL and walk out with a pistol that day. Also the permits for Livington County aren't the antique looking paper permits with your picture taped to them like most other counties, they're credit card looking ID's with a hologram and your thumb print and photo digitally printed on it. They give you a slip of paper to keep with you that lists your pistols so it's not completely paperless but that list is easily replaceable with a quick trip to the clerk if your wallet gets wet and the credit card type permit is obviously waterproof. My old permit was so ratty all the time before I moved to Livingston County.

I have no idea how long I should expect it to take because the background checks with Albany and the FBI have already been done. I just need my references called. |

Livingston is about 3-4 months for the permit process, also livingston gives unrestricted licenses from the start so you'll be gtg, the first day you get your permit head down to the clerks office to get a purchase slip and buy a handgun and take it home that day.

I'm going to get a Glock 19 via the GSSF program so I'll order it in 3-4 weeks from now so I can its waiting for me when my permit arrives. That 3-4 months would be from when you turn the application in I would assume? Since my background check with the FBI and Albany is already done hopefully I'm only looking at 1.5-2 months. That would be awesome |

yes the 3-4 months is the beginning of the application process, if your people are being called then you should have your permit in the mail within a month or less, took me about 2 weeks after calls, my uncle took him a month.
The Glock19 is a great pistol, I have one and love it, might actually go out saturday and pick up a gen4 G19 if I can find the time. |

The problem is county licensing agencies make-up their own rules/regulations/procedures that in some cases violate state law. |

Congrats your lucky Im looking at 12-14 month wait and that was before the 6 month back log in Erie county. If the GSSF program is thier LEO/MIL program I advise against it. I had an order in under that program and if you shop around on GB you can find it much cheaper since you have to pay for the gun plus sales tax and shipping. Most shops are at that price and if you are MIL/LEO they will also give you a discount without the sales tax and a lower shipping cost

Applied to have them lifted in April, got my letter in July. They are getting shit done now. |

I was just looking through my spam folder before deleting it and came across an email from the Livingston County Sheriff's office from Aug. 5th.
They needed a bit more information as far as references, etc. but were surprisingly pleasant. Before I hung up I asked how long until I should have my permit in hand and was told 2 months, so I'm hoping that is a conservative estimate. Either way I should have my CCW by the end of October!

get the 9mm, easier recoil so follow up shots are faster/more accurate. Ammo is more plentiful so whether your in a store or online there will be more of it or easier to find. With good hollow point ammo i.e. winchester sxt or speer gold dots... 9mm expands very well and will be good in a self defense roll. Also come hang out in the handgun forum and you'll get some good info, I'm usually bombing around there when I'm not posting here
oh and I forgot, the ammo is a hell of a lot cheaper so more time at the range!!!!!! |

I have a .45 as my carry gun. It's a 3 inch 1911 springfield micro compact and I love it. You really can't go wrong with either... personally I'd go with the biggest round I can carry and shoot well. For me that's a .45 ... ...one big ass bullet

The Deputy wasn't able to make it Monday, Tuesday, or tonight so he did it over the phone. After having to submit a few more references myself and my dad are finally done with having to provide info for our permits. The sheriff is going to finish calling our references on Friday and then we should have our permits shortly after.
Between the two of us we had to provide 18 references for the entire process.

Just heard from the county clerk today and was told that the permit should be in the mailbox within 5 days. So I contacted my FFL and I'm ordering a G4 G19!
Talk about the best week of gun related stuff ever!

My Gen 4 G19 is at my dealer's as of today. Just waiting on the judge to sign off on the permit.
I had to go in today to get my finger print done and my photo done for the driver license type permit. |

Shooting in PA this past weekend cost me around $900 so after I pay for the Glock no more gun purchases until after my competition shotgun. |
