Went to the Nassau County range this morning with my two daughters (13 and 18). Met Balzac72, ChrisLe, Bear3551, Vinnie, others. Get our group name on a list so we can all shoot in the same room.

I was going to have my daughters break in the new SEBR while I shot handgun.

We wait about 10-15 minutes. The range guy calls us and then informs me that my younger daughter can't shoot unless I have the following:

Her birth Certificate
Her school ID
My Hunter Safety certificate.

He said it was a state law. Needless to say, I don't carry this stuff around with me. So we ended up leaving. I wasn't going to shoot without my kids.

State law? My younger daughter has been shooting for years at any other range.

What gives?

That kind of Sh!t just ruins the day. Looks like your lawmakers are just as retarded as ours.

I bagged it this morning because of the rain. My truck wasn't available and I don't drive my car in the rain. Yes I'm a wuss.  Are you guys going again next Sunday?

The range officer or someone else at the range is interpreting the law incorrectly as far as the hunter safety certificate requirement. That only applies to a person other then a parent. State law does restrict the minimum age to 12 at an organized range so they could ask for ID and proof of her age.

7. Possession, at an indoor or outdoor shooting range for the  purpose

a  duly commissioned officer of the United States army, navy, air force,
marine corps or coast guard, or of the national guard of  the  state  of
New York; or (b) a duly qualified adult citizen of the United States who
has  been  granted a certificate as an instructor in small arms practice
issued by the United States army, navy, air force or marine corps, or by
the adjutant general of this state, or by the national rifle association
of America, a not-for-profit corporation duly organized under  the  laws
of  this  state;  or (c) a parent, guardian, or a person over the age of
eighteen designated in writing by such parent or guardian who shall have

Yes, it really sucks when the assholes running the ranges are ignorant.

Take it from the victim of a pair of ignorant range officers and their equally assholish owner.

He probably used the hunter safety cert. excuse b/c they teach it there. What did the guy at the window say when he signed you in and saw your daughters?

We discussed doing a Calverton shoot (pending weather) so we could get some long guns shooting done, not to mention the problem of the original thread.

I bet he used the excuse because we made them 'work.'  They weren't that happy about moving people around to accomodate our little group.

That reminds me.  We were hoping you'd show up and 'skool' the ROs

Nothing. Greg signed in for everyone, but my daughters and I were standing right in front of the window.

The mess the range guys made with the girls.  I was ready to pack up and head to Calverton if you guys gave the nod.  I thought it was disgraceful and I still believe they gave you a hard time because they had to get up and move everyone around for us.
