My county clerk is telling me that I have to transfer the pistol through a NY dealer and receive a bill of sale from the local dealer to get it off my permit. Anyone know? Beats me looking it up.

It appears that they want written documentation of the disposition in order to amend your license so you don't have much choice in the matter.  I don't know if my counties pistol permit division requires this.

That makes sense-well my ffl doesn't have a pistol license, this is more trouble than it's worth.

I know, my girlfriend and I have been talking about where (gulp) "we're going to settle down" as she is looking for a longer term job. She could find work in upstate NY easily but wants to stay in the south.

"What if I take the job in (upstate NY city)? What happens to my guns? They'll give me a permit then won't they?"
"Well probably not right away."
"Humph! Well I just have to wait then?"
"No in (that other shitty county) they probably won't let you carry a pistol at all. It will say "for target shooting only."
"But (job place) is in a kind of bad part of town. I can't bring my guns at all?"
"Not exactly legally, no."
"Why would I move there"
"Errrrrrr"

They practically have a seizure when I tell them  that neither AK or VT requires any type of permit to a carry a concealed handgun and that many states also allow open carry.

I met a buddy of mine who is a police officer for lunch at a local diner not long after going to Bulletfest. I told him how cool it was to shoot a sten gun and m16. He smiled and laughed and then looked around and said "weren't you afraid of someone hearing it and getting caught"? I told him they were legal in Ohio, in fact that they were legal a lot of places, he gave me a look like he CLEARLY did not believe me.
