Beanball: Mills Offers Schumer "Dodger" Shirt \Oct 21, 2004 4:45 pm US/Eastern (1010 WINS) (NEW YORK) Republican challenger Howard Mills offered Charles Schumer, a Brooklyn Democrat, a "Dodgers" shirt on Thursday and gave New Yorkers an opportunity to toss beanballs at the senator.
The little-known and underfinanced Mills, a state assemblyman from Orange County, has been complaining that Schumer is ignoring him and dodging questions, including whether the senator may run for governor in 2006.
On Thursday, Mills showed up at Schumer's Manhattan office and dropped off a Brooklyn Dodgers shirt for the senator, dubbing him "the Brooklyn Dodger."
"It's time for Chuck Schumer to stop dodging these important questions," Mills said. "New Yorkers deserve a straight-talking senator who's not afraid to take a position, and take a stand for New York."
Meanwhile, Mills updated his web site with a Schumer-headed figurine decked out in a Dodgers uniform. When viewers, attracted by the "It's time to play ball with Senator Schumer!" message, follow the "click here to play" directions, a ball cracks Schumer in the noggin. A new question brings a new pitch, and a new beaning.
Schumer spokesman Stu Loeser said the senator would have no comment on the shirt gift or the video game.
