I was talking to someone and they told me that as a certified RO you are given some peace officer status and are granted a statewide CCW. Does anyone know what the rules and regs are surrounding this?

Check the CPL and Penal Law of NY State. I very much doubt any of these range officers have Peace Officer status, unless they are employed by local government and perhaps have other duties. Certainly, just being a 'range officer' isn't going to get them a 'full' carry permit.

Peace officers are exempt from 265 except where they are specifically required to obtain a pistol license as stated in 2.10 of the CPL.
