Regular single shmo with a chihuahua, homeowner, keeps thermostat on 75, minimal lighting, just listens to music on ipod. Jun Elect - $112.98
Jul - $185.79 Aug - $294.49 This is ridiculous!! how is it in your areas of the woods? |
Thermostat on 75. I don't think mine has shut off in a month. Last bill was over $400; highest it's been in the 10+ years I've been here.
It is useless to post just costs, it needs the usage or the rate to mean anything.
I'm using about 30% more electricity this July compared to last year, so my bill is accordingly higher. But since this is about as hot as we'll get, this is about the highest my bill could get. A/C running about 22-23 hours per day. July 2021: 2,534 kwh May 2022: 1,794 kwh June 2022: 2,532 kwh = $224 July 2022: 3,460 kwh = $304 Just checked my plan, I'm on this 36-month fixed rate until Nov 2023. Whew... |
Electric bill has been lower than my water bill. But about $500 for the two combined.
I usually keep the thermostat at around 85, which runs the A/C just enough to pull some humidity out of the air.
Ceiling fans do the rest. Latest electric bill was $130. Lots of square footage, high ceilings, and way too much direct sunlight exposure in the afternoon. Modern home designers are idiots. Last year, we were paying $0.10 per KWH. This year, it's around 40% more. |

Bills are going up and I keep seeing these “solar” companies popping up. Buyer beware. If you cannot afford to pay up front for it then you cannot afford it. I’ve had a few try to get me to start doing residential solar and after looking at the finance side of it I think it’s almost predatory.
To be clear I do not do residential in the first place but we’ve set a couple sites up where Solar made sense vs getting power to the site. Those units are paid for at the beginning though. |
Basically going in the inverse of my 401k growth (or lack thereof).
On a co-op for power.
Calculated rate is total bill divided by measured kWh so includes all taxes a fees. $/kWh Jan 0.1297 Feb 0.1317 Mar 0.1312 Apr 0.1308 May 0.1657 Jun 0.1622 Jul 0.1608 Good thing we don’t want energy independence… Total cost still doesn’t really make sense for me to pursue solar. I am thinking about it though just purely from a preparedness standpoint but would need a system with batteries and capability of running in “island” mode when the grid is down. |

Mine went from $179 last month to $255 this month.
My Parents just got their latest one. It's over $750 |

Sadly, I came up for renewal about 3 months ago. Energy Ogre.
My bill has exploded. I should have taken control myself when Biden won and locked in a long term. But, I wondered if the companies had a way of getting out of the contract if prices rise to a certain point Anyway I’m fucked |

So that explains your bill. If I may ask, what are you doing to keep it low like that? No AC, no laundry, no lights?

But, I wondered if the companies had a way of getting out of the contract if prices rise to a certain point Anyway I’m fucked View Quote I made the mistake of going year to year two years ago. Thinking plentiful NG. Like a dumbass I underestimated the harm Biden could do. I always went with three year contracts before. Anyway what was .09 and then .11 all in is now .16. Of course this June and July were more like a normal August. Last month was about 264.00 but the house is 3000 feet with ac at 75. During the day and 73/74 at night. Had one unit that was running a lot and not cooling well. Had it checked out and the coil upstairs was leaking. Had it charged up an later changed out . That has made a real difference in run time. We normally have August at about 2200 kWh. Due to price increases I have been very active in light patrol. And at night half the house is set on 80. It never reaches 80 but if we are gone during the day it might. Overall everything is going up |

I did swap out my incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs several years ago.

Quoted: Sadly, I came up for renewal about 3 months ago. Energy Ogre. My bill has exploded. ... View Quote Same here. Energy Ogre usually got me great deals, but there just are not any out there right now. I went from $0.089/kwh to $0.169/kwh. Plan prices suck right now. Usage is up a little compared to last year by maybe 100 kwh, but my bills have been almost double. My normal June/July/August bills are $200-240, so far, it has been $420 for June (mid June bill), $405 for July (we were out of town for 4 days with the thermostat set at 83°), and my estimated for August is $410. Family of 4 in a 1300 sq ft house built in the early 80's. Attic insulation is decent, single pane windows, A/C unit is about 15 years old. A/C is set to 79° in the day, 75° at night (9:30p to 6a). |
Latest bill $205
New build 2 level 2400sq ft. Temp at 73 and 71 when going to bed. No shade and rear of house has most windows and faces west. Brutal between 4pm-7pm in the summer. Considering the temps this year I'm ok with it. |
Too many variables in electric bills.
What's your delivered rate? This is your total bill divided by your usage. All in. Mine is about 12.8 cents/Kwh If democrats keep getting elected, some good insulation upgrades, including windows, may pay off as prices move towards the 'let's bankrupt Americans' level. |
After a $424 August bill I signed up with energy ogre. We’ll just see what we’ll just see.
We run it 73* at night and 75* days. Water has been high as well. |
Latest bill was $229 which is the highest so far. We like it cold though, ~72-73* during the day and 70* at night. Honestly I thought the bill would be higher.
Another small place dweller here, so I won't bother telling you the actual price, but it's definitely higher than it was last year. Not so much in useage, but the rate went up. While the weather's worse, my life changed so I can leave it set higher for more of the worst part of the day.

I signed up on the 10th, they drafted $10 shortly after that then yesterday they wrote and said they need more information. Today I get my Gexa energy bill for $404, about the same as it's been. I read the entire Energy Ogre email and their phones are only available 8:30-5. Who the fuck only runs phone lines not even 8-5 but 8.5-5. Anyone else thinking EO isn't the deal it once was? |

I'm surprised; Energy Ogre responded. Actually, it was an automated response.

Quoted: They just automate finding the best short-term deal. If there is no short-term deal, you get the best of the worst. and pay $10 extra per month. View Quote Yeah, I am close to just stopping with them. They have done well for me in the past, but this time, hard to say. I was looking a week after I got my e-mail from them and could not find anything better. I think currently all rates just suck. |

Ours is combo water/sewer/power/trash
NBU 1,500 sf house, keep it at 74… $700+ |

Quoted: Ours is combo water/sewer/power/trash NBU 1,500 sf house, keep it at 74… $700+ View Quote I'm doing water, sewer, trash from the city. It's not terrible considering I water regularly to keep the yard looking good and my neighbors looking like the assholes that they actually are. My electricity is 11.2 cents/kwh because I changed from paying way too much about 6 months ago. 11.2 isn't great, but it's better than the 14+ I was paying because I wasn't paying attention and didn't have a contract. Since details are important: 2600 sq ft, mostly 78F during the day and usually 72F at night. Last bill was about $275. The city bill was about another $250 (down $50 from July). Cost of doing business since I work from home and enjoy making my cheap neighbors look bad. |
Quoted: This is something to consider with more folks working at home. Probably offset by lack of office-caused lunches, tolls/gas, and dry cleaning, but notable. View Quote |
