I've decided I want to take the plunge and get a hunting lease.  I'm in north Austin, and I'd like something within about 2 hours drive so that I'll be motivated to keep an eye on the place.

I primarily want deer for meat (No interest in big bucks) but hogs, cotton tail, dove and quail would be pluses and I'd like to give ducks and turkeys a try.

Where should I be looking?  South?
How much is reasonable to pay? What are some things to look out for?  I really have no idea where to even begin looking.

Thanks for the advice.

I hunt on 100 ac.  When there were 4 of us it was 1k ea, yr around access.  Now there is 2 of us, 1400 apc.    So, I would expect 1500 or less per gun, depending on ac , number of guns, etc.

Abilene area, btw

Water would be nice.  I don't need a cabin or anything like that.
