Keep an eye open if you head through the Belton area. If the traffic is light, check out the the spots where they cut the grade for the hwy. Many Echinoids were gathered.

I have found large Ammonites and sand dollars in creeks from around lake Texoma to Denton.
Largest one I found is over 13 inches in dia. |

Try the North Sulpher River after a good rain. There is a place to park on 34.

Have you ever been to the Mineral Wells Fossil Park?
This rain should have turned up a lot of new fossils. |
|
|
We found several large Ammonites in the Nolan river off of 67 in Cleburne.

Just make sure you are aware of state laws when collecting fossils, minerals and artifacts. Landowner permission is needed when on private property. Not many places on public land at all where collecting is legal.

Actually there is quite a bit of area. "Every collector is responsible for determining legal access to any collecting site. Typically these would include road cuts within the accepted public right of way, navigable streams, fossil parks, private land with permission of the landowner, and Corps of Engineers properties with permission. Invertebrate collecting on BLM and National Forest land is allowed. " Just road cuts in the Dallas area would keep me busy for months. View Quote Interstate road cuts are illegal to collect in. The I-30 road cut in Dallas along the Kamp Ranch Limestone of the Eagle Ford would be a wonderful place to look....but illegal to collect. |

I found a guy walking down the Co. Rd. with one of those rock hammers.
He had his truck parked with the tailgate and cap open. He was parked on the road where there were different levels of rocks going up about 4 ft. On my property. He swore he wasn't there to dig. I took his pic and one of his lic. plate, he left. Please don't trespass. A lot of us have had trouble with people stealing rocks, cutting firewood, etc. |

Well I can see that posting this in texas was a bad thing to do...first I get unsolicited legal advice and now I get called a trespasser. Shit I thought getting out in nature and walking around a little might be a little therapeutic, but instead I should just stay home. Jesus h Christ guys don't we have enough crap in our lives without going all government agent on every damn thing? Maybe I should get rid of my evil black rifle and just call the police if I have a problem. View Quote Drama llama much? |

Op you sure are thin skinned.
You may have gotten invites to dig on someone's property. Maybe your mom will warm you some milk. |

Looks like Hound had a melt down. I guess he better stay out of Texas and stop plotting to steel our rocks!!!
I'ed hate to have to call the rock police and have him thrown in rock jail. |
|
|
I'm not really sure why hound took his posts and left,
I thought this was an interesting thread and I didn't think anyone was accusing HIM of trespassing. Same can be said of the metal detector people, there are always a few that will screw things up for everyone else and give the whole hobby a bad name. I'm not much of a rock person, probably because I spend a lot of my time at the ranch "harvesting" and moving rocks. I'd let him come out to my place, but if he takes one, he has to take them all. |

If somebody is looking for fresh digs, there is a new subdivision between 121 and 544 on Josey lane. One area has power poles still standing on 25 foot or so round "islands" that show what looks to be an undeveloped land cut in about 25 feet or so.
Be sure to wear your desert camo and face paint. Sinacola is in there at this time. Looks like that have a few more weeks of work. They probably have cams protecting their equipment at night. We would see diggers all day long in new subdivisions lots of times. Nobody ever bothered them. Brave men, they ate the cooked food off of the roach coaches. |
