I'm rebuilding my small block Chevy out of my truck, and need a recommendation on a reputable machine shop to check the block, hone, resize rods, install new rod bolts ect.

I don't just want to guess from a phone book, plus which ever direction I go (Houston or Austin) from my house, it will be an hour drive for me one way, so I need a one stop shop.

Those of you that build your own engines, who do you use??

Thanks!

Jeff at Custom Machine on Pinemont in Houston did my machine work for years, though I haven't been in there for the last 8 years or so. I'm a Ford guy but I assembled a few Chevies for others.

My brother's 327 Chevy with forged pistons. Vortec heads. Machined and balanced by Jeff. The photo is from 2004.

That's a good looking engine.

Mine is a 2000 Vortec 350 4bolt (non LS). I drove it off the lot new in Sept. 2000. It's got 200,000 on it and was loosing oil pressure. After getting it apart, it is only .003" under on the crank, but the bearings are shot, and the scoring probably won't clean up at .005". I figure .010"/.010" would be good. It has the P/M rods, and ia an American forged and assembled engine.

(The GM crate I replaced it with has proven to be crap, the dealer is not wanting to honor the warranty. That is a whole other story I don't want to get into.)

I can build a better engine then that GM hecto in Mexico. I just need a machine shop.......

This is just going to be a stock rebuild, with ARP fasteners.

Jeff is still there, but 6-8 months behind, try westside performance, they do very good work at a fair price. The last 406 they built for me hit 1,000 hp on nitrous.713-465-7996.
