Steam Boat Steakhouse near BW8 and Gessner.  Be sure to say HI to Charlie (owner) and order some Alamosa Wine Cellars wine.

This restaurant is like a Texas museum.  A great place and excellent food.

Big Chili Cookoff and craft beer tasting event in Galveston on Saturday.
Folks either love or hate Galveston and the TX Gulf.  I am happy to be in the former.  It ain't Tampa by a long shot....but it is a damn site better than any beach we had in the midwest.

unless you have never seen the ocean before it's worth  a look. If you have seen a real ocean before don't bother, you will not be pleased. The water is not blue and the waves aren't big.  Just my .0.02 worth

If you like to look and not buy, Collectors Firearms, corner of Richmond and Fondren.
Very pricey but its like walking in to a museum. Lots of interesting stuff.

I think Kemah is a better hangout than Galveston.   Several good restaurants and bars.

I second Navajo, go check out Collector's and eat at George's Pastaria. Little place, amazing food. It's right around collector's. I'm sure one of the guys can tell you how to get there. I, unfortunately cannot remember.

In Humble, close to IAH.  Excellent food.

For something cheaper, and more down-home, you could try this:

For those of you that remember Tookies.  A Tookies clone has opened up.  It is called Stomps.  Further south down 146 from the old Tookies.  Parking sucks but the food is AWESOME!!!  Very small just like Tookie when they first opened.  All the old favorites are there they just have new names.
