Quoted: If you must stay in the area, there is a brand new Hilton Gardens at I20 and Main St. / Duncanville Rd. in Duncanville. Not the best area, but new construction and better response time for LEO in Duncanville than Dallas. That is the best in the immediate area.
I would not stay in the Motel 6 on I20 at Cockrell Hill if it was the last place to stay in Dallas. I think there are a couple more motels at that intersection to avoid as well. This area is very seedy.
If you have the option to travel a little ways, go south down Hwy 67 to Cedar Hill, south down I35 to Red Oak, or West down I20 towards Grand Prairie/Arlington. I would advise against staying in that immediate area if you can help it.
Good luck. Let us know what you decide to do. |
I'm pretty close to there. It ain't motel-6, it's an "Inn". Friggin cheap-ass company. They'd put me up in a pup-tent on Highway 67 if it was an option.
Well, in my first 16 hours...
- had an African cabbie get us lost, so we cruised Redbird/Duncanville for 45 minutes late last night. Neither I nor the desk clerk could understand anything this guy said.
- desk clerk strongly suggested I not walk to the nearby restaurants without "packin heat"
- a company manager and coworkers all laughed about my hotel, and wish me good luck surviving it.
- had a knock on the hotel door at 2:30am from some intoxicated woman, asking me if I wanted "to have a good time". That line was older than she was, and she looked about 50. I politely declined, but I'm seriously considering a very sarcastic response to the next one that knocks, just for the entertainment value.
- had some kid throw a rock at the car while driving to the hotel tonite. Is that considered normal childhood play around here?
I cannot change hotels, unless I want to pay for the entire expense myself
. The weenies in accounting will only do the least amount of work they can possibly get away with.
I really like Texas, but this kind of a disappointment, as was the 10 hrs needed to make a 90 minute flight on Southwest. But what really burns me is a TSA sceeener in Albuquerque who deliberately stole a harddrive with very important information on it. I saw her holding it during a secondary bag inspection, and when I open my case on board the aircraft, it was gone. I KNEW her actions were suspicious when she pulled my laptop and "inspected" out of my sight. I just didn't think these people were true petty thieves and criminals.
My 5 day adventure has been extended to 12 days...
And I didn't bring any weapons with me, to avoid a TSA hassle.
Anyone got some recommendations for cheap personal defense weapons? Something that would not be taken with me on the trip home. I have already turned a fork into razor-sharp "brass knuckles", but that's only useful in a close-quarters violent physical attack. I'd like to keep the animals at least 10 ft away.
Any airsoft stuff I can paint black to look like the real thing?
I'm seriously considering buying a cheap AR, but would have to leave it in the hotel during work. Probably not a good idea.
Thanks for the help guys,
