Chalk one up for the good guys.

Intruder breaks in through bedroom window, thinking house empty; ends up stabbing 70-yr old male resident.  Instead of just rolling over and being a puss about it, the old guy (and his wife) each reach for their nightstand pistols.

According to the story, "[t]he intruder ran from the bedroom but was chased by the wife and shot in the chest just outside of the room."  (that shouldn't be a problem, should it? attn: TX UoF specialists)

This was in the sleepy Ranson Canyon community outside Lubbock.  They've only ever had one other [reported] home invasion, which resulted in a double-homicide.

Me, too.

Also, I realize now that I mistyped "Ransom Canyon" as "Ranson Canyon" -- whatever the hell a Ranson is, it is sleep deprivation talking.

FWIW, Ransom Canyon is not too far from Rustic Range.  In my head, I'm thinking/hoping these two were range rats.

From the wife's actions, my first response when my wife told me about seeing this on the news was "I wonder if she's an arfcommer?"

I hope the victim recovers, and kudos to the wife.

We need to augment our security paradigm to embrace the perimeter. That way we can draw down on the perp BEFORE he/she gets in the window, and politely ask him/her to go elswhere.

Its good to see that the elders of our society are not going to lie down, but stand up and not take that crap.

Its just like that grandma that shot the intruder that was hiding in her closet. I think it was about 3 -4 months ago.

I hadn't heard about this yet.  I hope the man survives, and hope the perp does not.

"The identity of the intruder is still unknown. Authorities say he is a Hispanic male between 25 and 30-years-old. As of 11pm Saturday the intruder was in ICU at UMC under police guard.

Once he makes a recovery he will be handed over to Sheriff's custody and taken to the County Jail. "

too bad it looks like bad guy will make it.

Luckily he'll be in the county jail, not a nice place to be from what all my jailer buddies say.

I'm originally from the coast (Corpus-area).  Same idea as beach rats; folks who frequent the beach to the point of excess.

(not that frequenting the beach or range to the point of excess is a bad thing.......... )

The story # ending in '2444' was from 3/25/2006.

Here is the "updated" story (ending in '4258') from 3/26/2006:

I lived in Lubbock a few years back, and I always loved the general attitude of the people there. Kind of a general I can take care of myself mindset.  Very friendly people too.    fullclip

Not really a good idea to send them off to a neighbors house, now really pissed.  Send them off period, to a medical facility or to the morgue!

That's presuming you live in an area where you like your neighbors, and they like you back.

I know a lot of arfcommers with anti neighbors who think of them [the arfcommers] as "gun nuts" (believe it or not, they don't mean that as a compliment).

Forcing the potential perps elsewhere will/should force these fence-sitters to either shit or get off the pot when it comes to the dichotomy of either embracing the police/nanny state or getting serious about being responsible for their own protection.  At least that's my theory............

Naturally, but I was being PC about it. Personally, I prefer booby-traps.

I think you may have hit the wrong key a few times, randomly-generating a hyphenated word.  [since booby traps are illegal in TX,] I'm sure you meant "random hazards in and around your yard and domicile," didn't you?

Since this thread is going downhill quick anyway.
Booby-traps? Is that anything like hooter-hangers? Those things are PITA to get off with one hand (except the front hook ones!)

Since it's my thread and I don't mind a bit *what* it devolves into.........

I love the front-hook ones.  Back in my heyday, I could unhook 'em with my teeth!

Miss. Ritter will be presented with a bouquet of flowers and maybe a plaque at the up coming Friends of the NRA banquet, for her cool head under dire circumstances.

Thanks for the update.

How is her husband recuperating?  I haven't seen any updates to this on kcbd, lubbockonline, or anything else.
