I need to have a logo for my Gun business.
Primarily for signage and shirts, not engraving, though that could be a future contest. I want to get shirts and a Gun Show banner made, but would like a logo prior to doing that. Business name is Northwest Houston Tactical I have a catch phrase/motto of: "Arms for Protection, Recreation and Competition" Just need a good logo. I know someone in the crew will be able to do a great job. Simple, effective etc. I like Texas flags or Don't Tread on me flags or U.S. flags....cool would be nice. Judging is by me and Ms. Coz. ***** You must be 21 years of age or older to receive it, as it could be turned into either a handgun or a rifle ********* Depending on the timing of the award, it will be a RRA, DPMS or Stag Lower...or maybe even a DoubleStar. Submit them to me via email at [email protected] Good Luck Coz_45 |

Texas flag int he background with 2 AR's crossed(or any 2 guns realy) and have the motto printed on the bottom in either plane jane black block letters, or sumthin fancy. that could get your started

My Email is [email protected] and my IM is GunboyG3

I sent mine in - I hope I win - That would be BAD A$$
Let me know what you think of the design. I actually drew it. |
look i may not be able to send a drawing or a pic but u know my idea is the absolute best option you have right now
I think he's looking for someone to draw/design a logo, not give him ideas.... |
you can do it urself on the computer easy or pay sum kid like 5 bucks or take it to a pro, and boom you got urself the banner. end of story. look im just tryin to get my first AR and im short on cash being 14 so im doin my best and my personal thought is that is the best idea so far. so im trying to contribute to his projects hoping he will contribute to mine with a free Lower cuz as i said when your 14 its hard to earn roughly $1,000 mowing lawns during the summer when you get payed 20 bucks a lawn
$20? Are you in Austin? Charge more That or learn to invest and earn it the old fashion way, sitting on your ass. But seriously, download the demo version of photoshop and make him a copy if you really want the AR. |
Exactly my point....if I had the time and expertise I'd do it myself, plus, I like the idea of doing a solid for the Texas Arfcommers....a lower is a good payment for a logo, IMHO. The black background Texas map is not a bad start at all, it would be a simple design for a shirt and banner.....it's in contention....but I'll give it a week before awarding. I think that gives everyone some time.... |

I have received via email some great entries.
I will not post them to keep the competition fair, but, so far it's looking great. I'll award the lower Next Thursday unless the ideas just stop earlier and Ms. Coz and I are happy with the outcome. There are a couple that already look great. |
I don't have time to work on something today, but i'll get to it tomorrow.

I disagree. Logo work, in general, is quite expensive-- even a basic logo. Much more than a basic stripped lower. However, in the AR15.com community, helping AR15com dealers out with their logos is very common-- dealers offer up a gun-related prize like this, sometimes complete guns-- and it gives dealers many ideas to choose from, much more than if you went to one shop and had them design it for you, and this is at a very inexpensive cost to you. Thing is-- most people actually don't own drawing apps like Photoshop or Fireworks, but they seem to have them (aka piracy), hence their costs are nothing. Tip, for you guys making logos-- you can download and try out Adobe Photoshop CS2 for 30 days [be sure to read their licensing agreement ;) ]. Not sure how fast you can learn the basics if you don't know it already though... |

I think a lower IS fair payment...... I am a "little" dealer....trust me on that...It is a side business only. I have about 15 handguns and two rifles and 10 lowers in Stock and about 15 knives....I feel that if they go spend 10 hours making a logo, I'd feel guilty, but some of these guys can do it in a few minutes. If it takes them two hours, that's $55 - 60 an hour pay. That ain't bad money, IMHO. If it takes them one hour, that's $100 PLUS per hour. That's fricking great ROI, don't you think? Like you said, we're in this together....I'll be continuing giveaways on here forever...I gave away a badger tac latch for guessing a song lyric that was in my sig one time....I DO try to be fair..... The Hou-Crew has gotten deals through me, and I don't believe anyone has been screwed around by me on pricing. If the lower for logo idea IS unfair, please let me know. |

Probably no copyright infringement and I have a bull terrier...hell, two of em!! |
How about Now WHaT? I'd rather not have acronyms on the Logo..... |
When would you like the submitted by? I have a few ideas but it will take me a few days to get them worked up.
I plan to make a decision on Thursday of next week. |

Getting some great stuff emailed to me.
When you email it, I will throw out some suggestions back atcha.... Competition is fierce. Thanks to all that are participating....there are some innovative/inventive folk on this board. |

Just a note. I'm an FFL. You're 14 years old...so if you win I couldn't send the lower to you... A lower is considered a firearm. You must be 18 to legally own a long gun, and if you want to turn it into a pistol, you'd need to be 21, so if I send it to your FFL he won't transfer it to you. Sorry dude. Oh, and if you ask me to send it to someone else, then that's an illegal straw "purchase", and I cannot do that either. Guess I better put an age limit on this.. |
You could always offer him the "Cash Option".... |
but the would be "cost"... |
Only if you foolishly choose MSRP as the basis. |
Oh Yeah, we FFL's ger Lowers for $10 or so! You're funny. Go to the Gun show. You see the guy with the Jerky, or the guy with Kettle Corn. His margins are about 400% higher than the Firearms guys! I just think sending money would be weird. A lower is what we all want and can use. I'd rather do that as it was the original concept. |

I think the Lower idea was a fun idea. No, for what a lower costs you couldnt hire someone to design crap. But so what. There are two things that make this deal fun. The words "win" and "prize". It's not only about that here. I would help a fellow ARfer out without it at all. For the most part thats what being a member of this site has been about. I have hooked a few fellow ARfers up, and have had a BUNCH help me out.
+1 I've submitted several designes to Coz and would have done the same had there been nothing to gain. Now, having a lower on the line is a nice deal , but it really ain't about that. JS |
How about this: if one of the junior varsity wins the competition one of us older guys buys the lower at cost and you give the cash to the kid. We get a less expensive lower, the kid gets cash and it doesn’t affect your bottom line. Win-Win-Win. |
WOW!
So many great responses so far I had to create a special folder in my hotmail account to keep them separated. I've gotten some really amazingly good ones! I'd encourage all to keep your entries private so as not to give away backgrounds and give hints.....but, it's all good. Ms. Coz and I are gonna have a difficult decision to make! Thanks to all! |

Alright how many of use the standard done to death cross hairs in your logos?
Remember this Coz, more colors more expensive and also harder to duplicate on business cards. Lots of colors looks flashy but its more expensive when it comes to letter heads, banners....etc. And please don't pick one with cross hairs, every one has them and it's been done to death, yours will just blend in with the rest if you do. Just some free advice |
Offering a "cash option" in lieu of the actual lower, in which you decide how much cash to give out, has nothing to do with beef jerky, margins, or how much you get a lower for. My bad for HELPING YOU find an alternative method of compensation for someone who is going out of their way to HELP YOU DESIGN a LOGO, but cannot receive a firearm. I will be sure not to do it again. |
Man, did you take that wrong? I was just joking about the margins and stuff. I'd feel funny handing out cash. That's all. That's all I should have said.... My real reason for not doing cash is to give folks an opportunity to get a lower without shelling out $100 or more for one...nevermind. Everyone has been very helpful. Even you. |

I've gotten many different versions, some with Crosshairs, some without... You're right about the color being more costly. I'd guess a single color or two or three would be the most you'd want on a shirt. Banners are costly and I'd want to do it up nice. The business cards can vary greatly. I have thought about choosing a logo that could be all b&w or add color if suited for the medium on which it's displayed. Thanks again to everyone for the advise and submissions..... As I said before it's a difficult decision |
I over-reacted. My fault. |
Post them all after you've made your selections. I'd like to see how creative this group can be. And to see if you have good taste |
Me? Good Taste? Not a fuckin chance.....cept in women and dogs..... |
