The house we bought out here is pretty nice and more than big enough for just the two of us.  However, it was lacking in the garage.  I often wonder how the couple that lived here before us did anything in their garage.  Maybe he was a metrosexual.  

Anyway, shortly after we arrived, I started to remedy the "wussiness" of the garage.  First came the workbench.  While I was shopping for supplies at Home Depot, I walked past the cabinet and countertop section, noticed the drawers and figured that a couple of those would be a good idea.  I had never built drawers before, so I took a bunch of them out of their counters, studied them, figured out how to do it and went and picked up the necessary hardware.  One of these days I may try to make some drawer pulls from empty .50 brass.





It has two coats of polyurethane on it now and has already become appropriately cluttered.  

The next step was to fix the piddly amount of lighting.  All that it had was one two-tube flourescent light!  Pffft, not nearly enough.  So, back to Home Depot again.  Yet another thing I had never done - home electrical wiring.  So I picked up their Wiring 1-2-3 book, spent about 20 minutes reading it at the store and said, "shit, this is easy"!  I had originally planned on buying just a simple two-tube plug-in overhead light, but instead bought two nice, bright four-tube lights and wired one up to the existing circuit controlled by the wall switch.  The other will be replacing the existing two-tube light and I may add a couple more in the future.

Last weekend I started to fix another problem - a severe lack of electrical outlets.  With my newfound knowledge of wiring, I added a four-gang outlet next to the workbench and a two-gang outlet on the ceiling above the workbench.  Why on the ceiling you ask?



So I can plug in my casefeeder!  Forget that I haven't finished unpacking my office - the Dillon 650 has been installed.    All that work just to get the reloader up and running, but it was worth it.  It's starting to feel more like a man's garage (but still has a ways to go).

I've also installed a ceiling fan in one room that was lacking in one and have a couple more sitting here waiting to be installed.  I'd also like to add another outlet in the garage, but it will be a dedicated circuit and will require a bit more work to fish the line down to the breaker box and back out to the garage.

 Great job, DVD.  I need something like that in my garage.

 Yeah, I like it...But my wife doesn't like the idea of bolting something on the wall and mess up 'her house' eventhough it's the garage.  Making separate workbench is OK with her though.

"Her house"???  Whipped like puddin'!  

BTW, here's the garage in the last house.  I insulated and drywalled it, but left a little treat if someone ever rips out the drywall.
