Anybody know of any companies besides general movers that can do this? Found a smokin deal on a 16 gun safe (about 500lbs) and would like to move it this weekend.

I have a 5x10 utility trailer that would handle it.  Drop me an email with your ph# and if you can get a few others to help, we could knock it out.  I do have two kids BD parties but other than that and maybe going to the fun show, the wknd is open.

BTW, none of that 2nd or 3rd story crap.

Bryanshoe - what part of town are you in?  I am shooting for either Saturday afternoon or Sunday mid morning.  Trying to coordinate now with the seller.

I have done this with a 2300 lb safe.  It is not that hard, but it is expensive if you pay someone else to do it.  You can rent a pallet jack (a narrow one if your doors are narrow) and a fork lift.  This isn't really that much money and two people can move the biggest safe.  After you move it, get another fork lift and pallet jack and repeat.  A Johnson bar can be rented too, if necessary.

Smaller safes can be moved on piano dolleys and/or a stout refrigerator dolly.

A tow truck won't fit inside your house, and the driver will have no interest in moving a safe.

You could call a shorer.  $150 per hour, three hour minimum.  They WILL get it done.

A 500 lb safe is small.  piano dolleys and an engine hoist, along with a small pickup will be all you need.

Bribe a helper with pie.

Put it on a pallet and move it around with a pallet jack up on the back of the truck if it has a ramp

A 500 pound can be moved by two people with an appliance dolly.  I`ve moved mine several times.  You can rent the dolly for about $25 a day.  Once its strapped on & you get it balanced theyre not that hard ro work with.  A truck is better than most trailers, the lower you lay it down the harder it is to get back in the air.

I think I'll go the appliance dolley route.  They are $7 from Uhaul and put it in a trailer.  Back it up into my garage and roll it in.  Perfect.

Whoo Hoo, 500 posts!!

I've moved my 600 lb safe several times by myself with an appliance dolly and pickup truck.  I'm not that big or in shape, it's just a matter of moving slowly and wisely.  I've negotiated single steps and threshholds using planks as ramps.  If you get 2 buddies to help out, you won't believe how easy it is.  Seriously.
