Hi all, I am in the process of relocating to the DFW/Denton co. area and am looking for some place to fire up the AR.  I am really looking forward to living somewhere that does not attach a stigma to the Blackrifle.  My previous home (the people's republic of New Jersey) did just that.  Any help you can give is appreciated.

thanks,
ka

Where in NJ did you escape from?

A little community called Sweetwater.  Small place outside of Atlantic City, away from the craziness of North Jersey.  For being the PRNJ, it was a pretty good place.

I was a member of a private range just 3 miles from my house that was pretty empty.  I was usually the only one there and since I was shooting teh AR, that was a good thing.  You would not believe the looks I got from SHOOTERS who did not understand that the AR goes bang and sends rounds downrange just like the Winchester or Remingtons that they had (and with more accuracy too).

Looking forward to TX.

I'm a relative newbie to the gun world...but I've found several nice places to shoot.  I generally wind up at DFW Gun Range on Mockingbird because it is the closest to my work.  They've always been friendly and helpful.

Welcome to TX.

Thie here forum will keep you abreast of the local get togethers.

Locally, you can shoot the ar at Gibsons in mesquite, out to 200yds there.

You can also shoot in Frisco at a place called Backwood Traps.

Collin County has a range to shoot full auto at.

If you want to do some long range shooting, Tac Pro shooting has 1000yd ranges,  It's a 2 hour drive from dallas.

The BEST shooting in TX takes place at the hun farm, where you can do what you want (safely, of course) during the day, and sit around the camp fire tossing a few back listening to TRG and ILIKEboyLEGS trying to get into everbodies pants.

Don't be afraid to mention you are going shooting, where and when, we have a good habit of showing up, even if it's just a pistol range.

Welcome to Texas there KA, you're going to love it here after Jersey. I know how you're going to feel, I am a former rezident of the PRNJ who fled 2 years ago and won political asylum here in Texas. You're lucky you were from the 'South' of Jersey, I hailed from the north central part of the state and don't miss it one bit.

You'll be in for a nice surprise when you come here, the people are nice, the traffic is not bad (Texans think their traffic is bad but for a Jerseyan it's nothing) and you don't see a lot of the NJ state bird on the road (the finger). lol You'll see the differences for sure.

Whereabouts in DFW are you moving to? I live in Allen, a nice quiet little suburb about 20 miles north of Dallas.

If you are in the western side of Denton county Quail Creek is close. It's just north of the racetrack on I-35W. They do not allow FMJ rifle ammo though.

Howdy Jenn, congrats on post #1 and WELCOME to ARFCOM!!

I shoot at DFW Gun myself, they are pretty good folks there.  I took my Texas CHL class there too.

kingairpilot: Welcome to TX man!  Best move you ever made (pick one) leaving NJ or coming to TX!!  I'm a native New Yorker myself, but a PROUD Texan.  No "pride" though

One of my cousins is with NJSP down around Jackson.

Both y'all, welcome!  And get together with these local hoodlums more than I do!

There is a place in  Sanger Tx. off Duck Creek Road, (west side of I-35) where you can shoot anything you want.  The owner is Lew, just don't shoot the cows.  There will be a sub-gun match on Sept. 8th.  Its for full autos only, but you can watch.

Pilots and A+P mechanics don't mix, but in this case since you have an assault weapon, come up to Sanger, you can shoot FMJ, most won't let you, be careful what you say around Lew, he is a FAA inspecter.

Welcome to Gods country!

Take 35 north to exit 478, turn left, turn left on Sam Bass Rd, turn left on Duck Creek, the range is down a bit on the right, not marked at all, you will see a blue house on the right, the office is just past it, the range is a little further down in a gulley.  Don't know about the FA shoot.

I live in the Denton area and have been shooting at Quail Creek.  Is a pretty good place but like it was mentioned before, can't shoot FMJ.  I'd like to give the place in Sanger a shot.  What does he charge to shoot?
