Next you are going to ask about a rucksack and which rifle you should buy to take up to Utah.

Which rucksack and which rifle should I buy to take up to Utah?

And how much ammo?

I think you should take a .416 Rigby.

I hear it's cold at night.  It's good to have one.

You can get normal meals at places like REI, instead of relying on some of the gross "mil-spec" MREs...

I think you are talking about South Summit.

I'm gonna get some of those too! I like variety.
I plan on eating even more food than normal on this trip.
Nothing like a great meal after a long all day hike.

I just want some MRE's that are good tasting.

im as big an MRE expert as you can be without being in the military i would think...........

get USGI, dont screw with the rest..............www.longlifefood.com sells USGI components but their full MREs are more expensive than you could buy good USGI sealed cases off of ebay for

chili and macaroni is the best

beef stew
thai chicken
chicken tetrazzini
beef ravioli
spaghetti
chicken noodle

off the top of my head those are some good ones

Can I order just thai chicken?

ILL-- the omlette is the best MRE!

IIRC you can order whatever the hell component you want off of www.longlifefood.com

ive never personally done it however and don't know if its fresh or anything else

on USGI MREs, there is however, always a date code

there will be a 4 digit #..............for example 3295

the first # is the year, 2003, the next 3 #s are the day, 295th day of 2003

My $.02:

I second Thai Chicken and other recommendations.  The vegetarian meals actually aren't that bad but don't keep you full.  I wish they would bring back the tuna and noodles though.

Stay away from the omlettes, hotdogs, ham/turkey/beef chunk, grilled beefsteak, or anything that mentions "formed" on it.

Captain Kings Chicken is ok, as well as the Shrimp Jumbolia (or however the hell you spell it) but I think those two are relatively new ones so you may or may not find them.

the vegetarian beef and bean burrito is so damn nasty when i run across it i throw the burrito away and just eat the other shit...........pasta with vegetables isn't all that great either but the other two vegetarian meals are alright

omelette and hotdogs have already been discontinued

anything with mushrooms sucks

yes, anything chunked or formed sucks

jambalaya and country captain chicken are decent but nothing to write home about

Or, you could just open it and look at the heater.

Or just put Tabasco sauce on the heater.
