I'd like to see if we could compile a list of firearms training groups in the state.  The focus here is on training that extends beyond basic CWP training.

If you have attended training or if you are aware of a training group, please reply.  AAR's are welcomed.

If you represent a training group, please respond and tell us a little about your training philosophy and a link of how we can find out more.

If there is interest and this takes off, I'll update the OP with the list of training groups, where they are located and a link to their site if it's provided.

Great Thread.

Pandion Tactical is a small training outfit focused in Greenville, with classes throughout the upstate as well as Columbia and Charleston.

Instruction is all from practical application of operational tactics.  The core of instruction focuses on proper weapon manipulation, high repetition, and fast paced dynamic stressors.  We are very focused on combat effective placement based upon an organ and arterial breakdown.

I started Pandion Tactical LLC. in 2012 after few contract obligations.  There is a large focus in our industry to learn how to look cool and shoot fast; with very few instructors that truly help someone learn how to 'run their gun'.  Speed is a result, not a goal.  You need to learn your weapon system, learn how to keep yourself in the fight.  You reach a personal acceptance that these are skills to be learned, not an excuse to be tactical.

I am the lead instructor with various experiences ranging from low to high speed.  For a few AARs that prior students have written, please visit TacticalClassFinder.com

You can learn more about us at www.PandionTactical.com.

Thanks guys,
Byrd

SUAREZ INTERNATIONAL

Alex Nieuwland is a great instructor of this group. He is located in Columbia, SC. My wife and I have both taken multiple courses from this group. They teach everything from close range gunfighting to combat pistol marksmanship to force on force training and everything in between.  There is a huge emphasis on movement with "get off the X" training, etc.

The next class is in October and it is Force on Force. My wife and I will both be there! It's not on the schedule yet but in February there will be an evil black rifle weekend and possibly defensive shotgun. Also I'm trying to get Alex to get a Combat Medic course going.

Project Appleseed(tm) has a presence in South Carolina, too!

Project Appleseed is an activity of The Revolutionary War Veterans Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to teaching every American our shared heritage and history as well as traditional rifle marksmanship skills.

Our rifle marksmanship program complements our history and heritage.  We teach the traditional American marksmanship skills.  There are, however, several aspects of our marksmanship program that deserve special mention. We are particularly proud of our younger attendees. In accordance with applicable local laws, young people with sufficient maturity are welcome to the Appleseed line and can, with parental permission, join the cadre.  The RWVA recognizes the importance of introducing a wide cross section of Americans to their marksmanship heritage.  Finally, an important aspect of our marksmanship program is called “Adaptive Appleseed.” Project Appleseed is serious about bringing our heritage and marksmanship instruction to everyone so we’ve committed ourselves to adapting Appleseed to the special needs of those who have certain physical challenges.

For a schedule of SC events, please check the South Carolina Calendar.

The price structure is very reasonable for two full days of instruction.  Please ask if you have any questions about the program of instruction.

I took a class at PSA Defense in January (Columbia), but their head instructor left and they haven't offered any more handgun or carbine courses since then (other than CWP classes).

The class I took was Defensive Handgun 1, and it was excellent. David Sports is a good, experienced instructor. Disappointed he's no longer at PSA Defense. I'm hoping they find someone else so they can begin offering courses again...But it's been 6+ months now...

I would go into more detail, but if PSA Defense never offers another tactical handgun/carbine class, what's the point...
:(

I've taken two classes at Threat Management. 1) multiple targets, shooting on the move. 2) low light/no light. we also did in/out/around cars.   Both classes were out standing. their instructors are a wealth of knowledge, and very professional. not to mention we just had a good time. I've taken other classes where the instructors were so wound up and up tight they sucked the fun out of the whole thing.  we are scheduling another class with them now. I cant say enough good about them.

Don't forget shooting the MRAD in .338 from 850 yds. Can't do that at many places. Even though you destroyed a sign instead of 5 he steel plate

Pretty sure PSA Defense, as it is described above, is no loner in existence. I know PSA still offers SC CWP (for $50 mind you) and Utah CWP classes and all of the ranges offer instruction/lessons, but that's about it.

Please update our listing as offering training across the Southeast, no longer focusing on SC.  We will still have the occasional class in Greenville though, depending on our sponsors or private groups.

A lot has changed sinve this thread started, which is great for us.  Still working on our 2015 calendar, courses will start back up May as the weather improves.

I know this is an older post so I thought I would update it a little. If you guys haven't checked them out yet I would definitely check out www.ravencombatives.com . They're out of Greenville, SC. They offer  the most advanced and most versatile set of courses I've ever seen. Very advanced training taught by professionals with actual combat experience....not gun store owners (no offense). Check them out sometime! Cheers!

Some 2018 updates from the main list. Would love to hear of other instructors/classes in the area if anyone has anything to add.

1. Palmetto State Armory (PSA Defense) - PSA Defense no longer offers defensive handgun or carbine classes. Just CWP classes and possibly private lessons.
3. Pandion Tactical - Pandion Tactical is now The Fortis Project, thefortisproject.com
4. Suarez International  I haven't seen anything local from Suarez in a while. http://www.suarezinternationalstore.com
5. Threat Management Group - They don't seem to have many civilian classes left on their calendar, but lots of military stuff scheduled. http://threatmanagementgroup.com
9. Southeastern Firearms Training Consultants - Southeastern's website is down and I can't find much of a web presence on them anymore. http://www.sefirearmstraining.net

Yes, we are still around and kicking!  Fortunately, we've been blessed and been well received so that we can outlast most of the programs that have come and gone over the last 5-10 years.  We changed our name in 2017 as we launched our target designs and a pro-shop.  Private civilian classes are still our most popular option, and our curriculums have adapted and evolved as times changed (as they should).

You can always send me a direct message on arfcom if you need anything, or you can contact us from all of the information found on the website.

I just received a gift from family to take a pistol class in Beaufort.Bluffton area. They aren't gun people and their internet searches came up with man alone tactical,
Its mentioned in this thread but I don't see any reviews. They are leaving it up to me to choose, it can be anywhere in my driving area (1-2hrs radius)

My skill:

I am proficient in static shooting at the range. I can punch out the center 10 on a silhouette no problem at 7.5  - 10, 15, 20 , 25 groups widen incrementally as expected.

I have my cc, was the top range score in my class of 10 for what it's worth. I feel i have grip and aim down fairly well but it's only in a controlled environment.

Looking for:

I don't mind revisiting or learning new "fundamentals" but I would like something that offers a different experience from what I have been doing at the range for 7 years. Any recommendations?

Not sure if you've taken a class yet or not, but I can't recommend Shootlogic enough. Their Handgun 201 class is a great first class for someone who already has their CWP. I've taken many of their classes and wish I had the $ to go more often. Great instructors who will help you improve.
