It has been quiet around here of late.  Holding at -20 degrees this morning here on the Rocky Front.  We have a good foot of snow to play in too.  Looks like the sun is going to come out and play, so time to get the snow off the solar panels here in a bit.  I wonder how the new couple from down south are holding up about now

Very cold but the wife has plenty of indoor projects to keep me busy.  The entire upstairs is getting a fresh coat of paint.  If you haven't purchased quality paint in a while you better brace yourself before going to the register.

Any outside projects are on hold except for running a box or two through the new Ruger GP100 Wiley Clapp TALO .357 Mag that I bought myself for Christmas.  Well, now that you mention it, I need to go blow the snow of the solar panels as well.  Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Woke up to -20.5 at my place in the south hills of Helena. The truck started, albeit a little hard but After letting to warm up a bit I headed to work a couple miles down the gulch downtown but I did take a short detour to let the truck get up to full operating temperature and charge the battery up a bit more. Seems to be warming up a bit down here as it is -12 up from -15 when I arrived.

My 99 Frontier with a 12 year old die-Hard battery started OK, then I let it idle/warm up for 5 min just because I hate holding a -20 deg steering wheel

All ok, just wish I had a wood stove to sit next to.  And Grandma back for a day to warm some hot chocolate on it.

It's cold enough to push quite a few elk down onto the scratch gravels. A veiw out the front window.

BTW, everyone please be safe tonight.

Even growing up here I am still in awe of the weather swings we get.  This time yesterday morning it was -24 degrees.  This morning I wake up to 6 above.  Yesterday we had a little wind here in the mountains, but I went down to the mailbox (5 miles), and the wind was wicked down there and COLD!!  Even at 10 below it was nicer outside than that was!!

Stay vigilant out there, the roads are still bad, at least around here.  Good day to stick at home and work remote.

I lived in northern Minnesota for 3.5 years. I'll never complain about the weather in the Northern Rockies. Piece of cake compared to the Great White North.

I spent that day working on one of your neighbors new deck up on Crossfire.  I haven't been that cold for that long in some time.

Sometimes it's great to be west of the Divide.

Yep a double-edged sword.  You folks got dumped on up north compared to down here in the Bitterroot. But the more snow up in the hills keeps the rivers/creeks running & the fire danger lower in the summer depending on how fast it comes off.

We warmed up & got some rain on the snow leaving a lot of slush down here in the valley, but the hills got more stuff to stick up high.

Bitterroot is nice and clear, raining occasionally.
