I probably should have asked this before buying a house down there.  And I'm not unfamiliar with the area.  I have friends in Gretna & Algiers but we found a deal a little farther south.

Anything to watch out for?  Common speed traps and the like.  Any off the beaten path restaurants that are awesome?

Watch for the blinking school zone lights along Hwy 23. They'll turn them on for all sorts of events, and the zone is a "while flashing" zone, so go slow.

Lil G's is good food. So is LA 23 Bar B Q near the base, but they only cook a limited amount each day - when it's gone, it's gone.

If you're Catholic, Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a good parish.

Save up money for future exorbitant bridge tolls.
