Private clubs in MA (of which there are ~200) don't require anything special to join other than to attend a meeting and be voted in. A handful require a work-party, but even that isn't usually a big deal.

Don't be intimidated by forms that require "sponsorship", just show up on a Sunday morning, introduce yourself and ask for a tour or shoot during their open to the public skeet/trap hours and you'll find a sponsor.

Go to a club on any weekend. They typically have skeet, trap, sporting clays or IDPA and ISPSC which are open to the public. Talk to people and like said before, ask for a tour. Read the rules and see if it's what your looking for. If not then go try another range.

We just capped our membership at Plymouth rod and gun but there are a lot of other good ranges around.
Good luck
