$200 for "Assault Weapons" (i laughed so hard at this)
$150 for handguns
$75 for rifles

So, they are giving $50 more for a type of firearm that is rarely used in a crime? That makes sense...

These buybacks are usually "no questions asked", so they wouldn't have any way of knowing whether you are a resident or not.

It's genius... if you could have people deliver AR's or AK's to you for $200 a piece wouldn't you do it.

What doesn't make sense is the moron that will sell an AR for $200.

How can they "buy back" what they never owned??

That phrase really bothers me. Just a feel good move on PD's part.

would an AR lower be considered an assault weapon?

That's fricking awesome! I've been trying to sell a handgun for exactly $150.00 in the EE for weeks now and no one seems to want it.

I still have a bushel basket full of old break tops that I have been saving to weld into a lamp. A little hesitant to go all the way up there with them. I worked a gun buy back program in Jersey some years ago and the instructions from the prosecutors office were that we would pay for ONE gun per customer. If someone came in with more than one, we were told to take them all but issue only one payment. Complaints were to be directed to the PD or the prosecutors office- but no one was allowed to leave with guns.

Hold on, so they said they were "Buying Back" guns, but when you tried to get paid for more than one they refused to pay you? Not all of the guns at a buyback are owned illegally. I can't see how someone who legally owns a gun and is selling it to the police wouldn't get their money or gun. That's called theft.

When I asked about taking private property without compensation, I was told it was worth it to take guns off the street. I was quickly replaced on that detail with an officer who was less inclined to ask questions.

I think you missed my point... If LEOs are going to consider lower receivers assault weapons, thats not very good for us.
FFS they don't even have barrels!
