I would like to apologise for the UK bashing from some of the twits from the USA on the board. I've had discussions with several of the UK guys here and you've all been nothing but gentlemen, I wish I could say the same for some of my countrymen. I guess too many cowboy movies and the ability to hide behind a monitor makes you a tuff guy.

Thanks for your sentiments Dave......... We know most of you guys are good people -  you only have to read the Ranstad's Militia threads to see how many decent folk there are.

The Brit bashing threads are a lot of fun, mainly because we know our own Country, and when people try and stir something they usually get their asses handed to them on a plate.  You get fed the same shit we do from the media, but we are in a better position to tell the truth and refute it as hysterical hype and poor sensationalistic journalism designed to entertain and stimulate the British public into outrage, so they have something else to report.

Most of time we are just happy to answer the questions of decent folk like you and let the nutjobs jump to their own conclusions.

Its all for shits and giggles at the end of the day

No offence taken. Just about every American I have ever met in person has been polite and courteous. I always enjoyed my stays in the States and if I couldn't live in the UK then the States is one of about half a dozen places that I would willingly move to.

I do find it amusing that there seem to be a lot of people on the GD board who can't wait to kill someone! The first mention of any sort of criminal/politician has them reaching for the pliers and blowtorch. What makes it even better is that most of them don't have the first idea about UK gun legislation - you would think that they would work out why we go to a website called AR15.com!

BTW Everyone on the UK board loves PMags!

Dave , we do have to pay , but it is just a one off payment to cover the paperwork ( variation ) £28  I think , its been a few years .to add that payment is not for each one , if you ask for 6 at one time you pay just one fee.

they always say no when you ask but it is just a game and if you keep asking you will get it , took me six months to get a slot for a .44mag buntline just after the handgun ban .then sold it a few weeks later as it just aint a 686

we have one set of laws , but each police force reads them how they want , so  force to force you find different rules .

I always wanted to put in for a .50 just to see them squirm

John,
Here it's $300us for each tax stamp/per gun, so that would get way too expensive for me. Also I believe you have to renew the stamp, 300 more bones, every 3 years. It's revenue . And as for how blurry the laws are, we have that here also. I'm sure that is intentional though, just gives the more power. With the way the laws read here in Wisconsin, my 3" pocket knife could be consider illegal This is why I'm sorry for the way the Armchairtacticalbeerbellys over here talk down to the Brits on the board. If they opened their eyes just a little wider, they'd see we aren't quite as free as they seem to think...

I often wonder how long it will take for that to sink in with some of the people that join in on the Brit Bashing threads.  The Tony Martin argument has been used countless times and so many onveniently forget that he shot 2 blokes in the back as they were fleeing with an illegally held firearm.  The fact that they were theives and scum is almost irrelevant in the circumstances given that Martin was not in clear and present danger.  Do the same thing in the US and there's a good chance you'll be spending a few years behind bars just like here.

Same with the "stab-proof knife"  and other claptrap.  The Wisconsin knife laws are probably something similar to over here - but here you can carry a knife of any length if you have due cause (i.e. work, hunting, personal defence doesn't count).  The stab proof knife is an innovation thought up by somone and hyped by the media - it's not compulsory, it's not in law it's juts an invention - in fact I've never seen one and at the price quoted wouldn't even consider buying one.  There's just no point (geddit)

The way I figure it is that most knives have a pointy end - and if my son is going to use a knife then he needs to learn to use one with a point safely, not be molly coddled with fake knives, cos one day he'll get a real one and end up accidentally poking something or somone he shouldn't with unfortunate circumstances.

Greetings from Las Vegas, Nevada. Hope ya'll don't ming if I chime in from the other side of the pond.
We aren't as free as we used to be over here, that's the truth. I think the problem in the US is that too many americans think that somehow our politicians are different; that draconian gun control beyond the current bullshit can't happen here. I have come to the realization that politicians, wherever they hail from, are all the same animal; they all crave power over the citizens. Their belief is that we mere mortals are too fucking stupid to make our life choices and that they need to protect us from ourselves. They don't want the unwashed masses to have guns because they give us the only chance we have to resist their always tightening grip over our lives. The only difference between the US and the UK is that you are a couple of steps farther down the road to socialist hell than we are. But our current crop of "elected representatives" is going full bore to make up the difference and then some.

you are always welcome here , I don't think the US will ever get the same as the UK ,or I hope not .

we are further down the road but we started from a different starting block than you ,.

what I mean is, gun ownership is a core value , embedded not only in your law  but in your constitution,we

don't have that protection .

and to honest we just don't have enough shooters in the UK to make a difference if it came down to a vote.

I do wish you all the best with your new leader but I would fear more for your financial state then your gun rights.

Everyone is welcome on the UKHTF!

I don't think that politicians think that we are too stupid to make life choices; in fact it's quite the reverse - they fear people making their own decisions. So they quietly go about try to eradicate things that they oppose.

They don't want us to question what they do so they can implement what suits their own agenda - you need only look at the ridiculous situation regarding the lisbon treaty; they know that it would be turned down if it went to the vote, so they will force it through even though the majority of people in this country are against it; because they think that they know what's best for us. They believe that people should look to the government in every area of their lives; until we basically become one big ant colony; where they do our thinking for us.

That is an interesting take on the situation UKjohn. You are right about our "gun culture" over here. In the states we do have more shooters than the UK, both raw mumbers and per capita. That is the only reason that our gun control situation isn't worse than it is now. In the US, the differences in gun law severity are due to the state legislatures. for example, I got sick of California's gun control among other things so I simply loaded up a U-Haul trailer and moved to Nevada which has less restrictions on gun rights. Basically the federal govt. sets the minimum level of gun control and states can add their own restrictions, but cannot go below the federal minimum, hence we have some states that are hostile to gun rights and others that are friendly towards them. This is in contrast to, and correct me if I'm wrong, your country where all gun laws are enacted at the "federal" level. I remember seeing a documentary made by the National Rifle Association back in the nineties when UK, Canada, and Australia were banning/confiscating guns( you can see it on youtube). One guy said, and I paraphrase "we didn't have an NRA like you americans do, we waited for the press to report the truth but they just told the same lies". It was fucking disgusting watching law abiding citizens lining up to turn their guns in to the police to be destroyed. You brits gave us our language, common law, and western european judeo christian culture; it's a crime what yourpoliticians have done to the mighty Brittania. I hope you guys draw a line in the sand and take it back.

Sincity2A,
I think the big thing here is the hunting. The hunting "culture" is huge, the fudds have us out numbered in a large way, but that helps us. And the elected officials know that they can fool around with hand gun and so called "assault rifles" laws because that will not wake up the hunting crowd, which too is a giant money maker (licences, tags, stamps) The second they threaten the hunter, they'll get voted out.

I did a lot of hunting when I was younger, and very few of these people understand my BRD. Military Arms Bad. That includes my family members. I gave a SKS to my BIL 15 years ago for Xmas, with 300 rounds of ammo, and the first time he fired the rifle was two years ago. A fucking Norinco sks, the fact that it was a military surplus rifle turned him off. And get this, he was looking for a good deer hunting brush gun.

Dave, dam where's that beer I hope it's not warm now...

You're right that is a big key difference. From what I can gather, the hunting crowd makes up a huge chunk of your gun owning population. Over here we have a strong hunting tradition in certain parts but I would say that it is the self-defense/it's my right to own guns crowd that makes up the majority of our gun owners. That is the key difference. Our gun control nuts try the same thing they do in every other country; they tell the "fudds" "hey, we only want to take the scary looking black rifles, not your side by side". Divide and Conquer. But we all know that eventually the side by side will be labled a "made for killing double street sweeper" and the fudds will be disarmed too. Also over here we have IIRC 40 states that issue concealed carry permits  "shall issue" as opposed to "may issue". This means that as long as you meet the objective criteria(differs by state) the issuing authority must issue the permit, no arbitrary denial as in "may issue" states. It makes it harder to push gun control in these states when the gun banners have to in effect say " I want to take away your ability to defend yourself" to people that have gone through the hoops to get their concealed carry permit. And yes I have mine, after all Nevada is the wild west don't you know.
On a sidenote, I was wondering, are all those AR rifles in your pictures chambered in the normal centerfire calibers or rimfire? I was under the impression that guns were pretty much outright banned over there, nice to know I was wrong at least somewhat.
