I'm building a truck for a guy who will be taking it to Alaska but I'm told you guys have emissions testing and use California's list of "Approved Aftermarket Parts"
I've been looking on the net all day and can't find much useful info on the subject, can anybody help me out here?

Now that I've ordered most of the parts how do I find out what all has to go back(ie. not on the approved parts list)
And what is it they are testing for?
Will I be able to weld on a catalytic converter and be done ,or is it going to be a pain in the ass?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

I also though you only had to spend X amount of dollars towards making a failing car compliant, no matter what it would really cost to get it to pass.  Once you spent that amount, it didn't matter if you passed or not.  It's been a looooong while since I had to I/M test though, could be wrong and I don't know what the X amount is anymore.

Strange that Hawaii for all it's liberal wackiness doesn't have emissions testing.  Thank God for small blessings.

Any lawmakers reading this, move on and don't get any ideas.

Quoted:
1) Emissions testing only happens in certain areas.  Where is your buddy going?
2) In the FNSB testing area, it officially ends 12/31/09

It al depends on the tech who does the testing.
I have had one who spent probably 15 minutes looking under the hood, but the vast majoirty want to get done ASAP so then can move on to the next car

He's moving to Anchorage.
