Hello there.  I'm Darren, 32, and work as an IT Support Tech for the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game in Kodiak.  I'm not new to firearms (I'm a big 1911 fan), but I am new to the AR platform and would like to put one together in the near future.  So I'm here, eager to learn!

Howdy folks.  My name is Judah Carmichael and I come from the tiny village of Goodnews Bay.  If you go almost due west from Dillingham to the ocean you will be in the ballpark.  My father retired from the USMC as a MGySgt a while ago now, but I grew up around guns because of it.  He has been the principal of the school out there in Goodnews for years now, hence why I grew up there.  When I was 16 I went half and half with my dad on an NFA M1918A1 B.A.R. and I used that as a general big game hunting weapon all through High School.  It was a great all around bush gun, I've taken pretty much every big game animal found in the Bristol Bay/Lower Kuskokwim area with it.  However I currently go to and work for UAA.  I am going to school to become an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic and I am 1 year away from my degree.  I bought my first AR in January an all original Colt R6401 AR-15A2 and have been having a blast with it.  Everyone loves my old Colt, especially me.  My father owned a few other NFA guns so I have been around a lot of pretty cool rifles but the AR keeps a poor college student shooting something other than my Marlin Model 60.  It shoots very well for a 25 year old rifle and I don't feel $.30/shot in my wallet anywhere near as much as a $1/shot .30-06 so I couldn't be happier, I am pretty fascinated with it.  Anyhow sorry for the long introduction, just wanted to say howdy, and that I hope to go shooting with some other local shooters.

Doug, formerly from Atlanta now landed in Anchorage for two weeks of orientation. Then we (wife and two kids (4 and 1)) are heading out to Dillingham. Anyone from Dillingham?

EDIT: if any of the anchorage people have pity on my poor wife, she's stuck in the hotel room without a car while we slog through this!

Checking in from Anchorage. Long time lurker, and wanted to say thanks for the help with my ARs.

Looking to get more help with my .308 ORC.  Have been searching heavily to come up with a good solution for the gas block, so I can add a flip up front.

On to the search!  Cheers.

Long time lurker, I finally got an account here so I hope to post every now and then. Knew that I had to get an account so I could message whoever it is that has that AR-50 out at the Cushman range  that is in the .50 cal thread

Born and raised in Wasilla, moved up to Fairbanks in 2007.

Married, 3 dogs, no kids, got toys though ... We call the dogs our kids, 2 Black Labs and a Great Dane.

Looking forward to my time here

Newb to this forum, didn't even know there was an Alaska section. I've been wasting my time on the AR Lower in Stock thread....

Been in Alaska 40ish years. Blah blah blah. I'm just starting to get into AR's, and boy my timing for prices couldn't have been worse....lol.

If I find decent parts deals I'll post them locally here. The main threads are crazy.

BTW, what is Alaska HTF?

I am from Fairbanks here, but currently a student in chemical engineering at Michigan Tech. I will be done in 2.5 years and hope to get a mining job in the Fairbanks area. I am more of an AK guy so I don't frequent arfcom that much, but I just finished a retro build about a month ago and now want to do another AR build!

Finally just created an account here, been a long time lurker.

Moved to Sand Point about 6 months ago from WA for work, but was born here in Aniak.

Anyway, getting parts together for an AR build now, trying to find any lower possible. Sold my last AR a while back to finish getting out of debt. Don't have any pics of guns on my computer, but right now I still have a target 10-22 and various hunting rifles.

Checking in from Seward, AK.... always into guns, but just got into AR's after the Sandy Hook tragedy ~ now piecing together parts for two AR's! I got everything I need for one, but waiting on the Duracoat to get here. I wanna add a two thumbs up to Black Dog Firearms in Soldotna, AK. for having AR/AK parts on hand.

in fairbanks for now, from arizona. was in the military from 04-08 and also was in law enforcement for 2 years before quiting and deciding to go back to school for a more lucrative career. have an ak, savage 308, 870, glock 27, sig 1911 scorpion, and now am just about to finish my first ever ar build.   got a great deal on a black forge kryptek set (blemish) and i have my barrel and kmr hand guard currently in the mail.

if i knew how to post pics on this site i would but of course the search doesn't work and i don't remember how to post pics to a website just to post them to this website... seems old school to me. frequent cushion every once in a while when my buddies don't want to go out further. I've got a nice spot i go to usually. i like the seclusion and the safety of not being shot or flagged or being around all the strange shooters that frequent the cushman range.

lot of info on this site. thanks!

Live along Upper Yukon, few miles downriver from border; been calling it home for 14 years now; staying put.  Just found this home town section, will make a few posts.  Finally, made it into new Cabelas in Anch last week; nice setup; ordered in a 60's win 308 model 88 with oak leaf; have to pick it up on nx supply run  come June.  All you guys living urban, you gotta get out and live in the real Alaska; you'd never live in a city ever again, no joke life is good out here.
