Sec. 15. NEW SECTION. 724.14 Nonprofessional permit ====

If a permit holder of a nonprofessional permit to carry weapons changes residences from one county to another county after the issuance of the permit, the department of public safety shall by rule specify the procedure to transfer the regulation of the holder's permit to another sheriff for the purposes of issuing a renewal or duplicate permit, or complying with section 724.13. Since they blew me off the other day I don't expect a response; as it is written I am sure the Sheriff can just say the procedure is whatever they say it is. Frustrating. |

I would think it would be reasonable to simply issue a replacement in your new county assuming the permit is still active and not expired. If so the $25.00 fee would apply. I would get a copy of the training record you provided to the issuing county that you received your permit from, you should not have to get new training, although training is never a bad idea, especially with the permit law changes.

When my wife and I moved two years ago the county we moved to told us it was still valid and they werent going to spend their time or our money issuing a replacement, and just to come back when it was time to renew.

I don't believe the new permits issued by the state have city and street addresses on them. So why the requirement to update if you have the new permit?
They do say what county sheriff issued them on the permits. You should update your DL to your new address. Form 4473 requires your current legal address on your DL or you will have to provide Supplemental Documentation of valid government-issued documents. |
