The Des Moines city council explored the idea of banning "high capacity" magazines and "trigger activators" such as bump stocks within city limits.
"We can act, and we should," city Councilman Josh Mandelbaum said. "The only reason people have high capacity clips or trigger activators is to do as much damage as they can as quickly as possible. There's no reason for them to have high cap magazines or bump stocks." View Quote "We're not coming after every gun in town," Councilman At Large Christopher Coleman said. "We're not trying to change your way of life. We're going to protect citizens from mass shootings." View Quote I'm happy I got the fuck out of DSM. I wish I wouldn't have stopped short of getting out of Polk county though. Link |

They can suck a fart out of my ass.
Will not comply with that bullshit. Fuck those communist heathens. |

I heard that and was like how did the shooting directly impact them? If the want to solve a real issue go after the gang problem. Or is that too hard?

hey dsm city council. you might want to read the iowa code. 724.28. then, reread it. then print a retraction in the paper. you can't do any of that stupid shit.
oh by the way, thank you to the volunteer orgs that got that little nugget placed in code so they can't pull that nonsense... |
|
They seem to think this gets around that rule.
But guys, look at how effective their fireworks ban has been. No one sets off fireworks in Des Moines anymore, right? I need to move. |

The silly liberal bastards can't even control the spread of illegal drugs on the street, but they think gun banning will work. The upcoming city council meetings will be packed with pissed off gun owners..

Idk how they could argue they aren't banning a firearm when they would be banning a necessary component of a firearm. But I'm not a lawyer and all that. |

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak for me. |

Maybe another way to push back is the money aspect? Thousands upon thousands of voters have hundreds and thousands of dollars of perfectly legal magazines that they want to make illegal. Force them to discuss a buyback, and I imagine the cost of that would make this "common sense" thing suddenly unappealing to them.
Or maybe not. I don't know, just something that crossed my mind this morning while fuming about this. |

I was discussing this with another member. It is going to take charged cases to prove preemption is a thing. For example, several businesses in Cresco have signs posted against carry, with a line saying "violating this sign is trespassing". They say the sign is them asking you to leave, and the sheriff has said he will arrest those who violate the signs. Another, I recently noticed at Treasure Chest in New Hampton(a thrift store). Their sign says "Violators are subject to arrest and forfeiture". View Quote |

IFC has organized a group of locals to go forth and represent at the council meeting. I'm supposed to be on the airwaves along with others in our org talking about this as well. I think some may have already been on 99.3FM and more to come on 1040AM.
If we stick together on this, and make some noise, we stand a really fair chance of convincing them violating 724.28 is unwise. Then, we all need to hammer our legislators with "Pass the Family Defense Act" since it could have taken care of portions of this. ...And don't settle for the "I would have voted for it, if it had made it to the floor" bullshit. Lean on them to see what they're doing to get it to the floor. That's a key question. |

simon conway and i talked yesterday and he's having me on 1040AM today at 6pm unless something changes for either of us.
6-19-19 @6pm 1040AM radio... i'm feeling a little snarky today. i hope to keep that in check while on the radio. nobody wants to step in shit live on the air, but... i might just say what's on my mind in a real literal fashion. GRRRRRR |

Quoted: you can make a very simple argument that the original design in a weapon is the magazine, of and in itself, is integral to the design. thus a G19 was designed to hold a 15rd mag, not a 10. although 10s are made subsequently. a magazine is not an accessory, as the weapon doesn't function by design without the magazine. a weapon light? that's an accessory. big difference. View Quote But I'm sure the communists won't see it that way, and worst case scenario, this would get decided by the courts. |

Listened to it in my car as well...nice job!
I was waiting for you to mention how a buyback plan for magazines would be a real boondoggle of wasteful spending for a town that is known for going down rabbit holes with tax payer money and irresponsible shortsighted wastefulness...but Simon cut in and moved on to another point. |
