We got a ton of rain last night in Altoona. I got water in my basement last week but reconfigured my downspouts and it just got damp along a few walls.

Our pumps were able to barely able to keep up. 2 of them were running constantly until around 3 am.
There are still cars stranded up and down the road by my place. NW DSM.
I Did not grow up in Iowa but in all the years I have been here I don't recall a single day rain event like yesterday. wow!

It was a shitshow for sure. I was coming back from by Drake around 8:30 and roads were hard to drive on at that point. Can't imagine how bad it was once the power went out. It went out about 10 minutes after I got home.

I used to live in NW Des Moines (Parkfair area) and my basement there would have flooded for sure. The intersection south of my house would flood.

Even with the power on it was hard to stop the water. A friend of mine in Bondurant had two sump pumps running and he still had standing water throughout his entire finished basement.

Posted about our flood adventure in GD.

We were out watching Sicario and Cobblestone Theater had to evacuate. Took us almost two hours to get less than 3 miles home. Rivers in all the roads. Moore elementary was underwater. Thankfully we are positioned up on a hill a bit but each side street had real low points and cars picked up and smashed together.

There's some awful wet spots on 69 just north of there. I was out of state all weekend and had no idea, saw all the standing water while driving home

Did anyone see the footage on channel 13, Where the 2 idiots purposely
drove into the water at 63rd and Grand? I don't know how that prius made it back out
and the other car didn't. I really hope the police arrested/fined/billed the morons for the rescue
and tying up the rescue teams and police when their services were in need else where.
You could tell they did it just to be on TV.... fucking retards... I am happy the one car and hopefully
both are totaled ...

I tried searching for the vidoe online but couldn't find it.
The flood gates were down and there was obviously no place to go.

They drove in at about 20-25 mph one right behind the other.
The prius, flipped a u-turn up over the median and drove back out
The second car was done within a couple seconds of hitting the water.
You could see the guys in the prius laughing as they drive back past the camera.
The second car, guy and gal climb out the windows and sit on on top of the car
waiting for rescue. They looked 17-22 age range.
