I can't decied where to live, how gun friendly is Iowa. I live IL now. Any links for housing would be great,

i travel to the quad cities for work several times a month.  i've noticed Ruhl & Ruhl is seem to be real estate people to see.  there are many others.  i'd live on the iowa side for tax reasons.  i'd also check into the illinois forum and compare gun laws too...  iowa isn't great, but illinois may be worse...

as far as places to live, if i had choices, i'd consider the Bettendorf or Davenport neighborhoods as well as the Le Claire area.  outlying areas include Buffalo, Montpeiler, and Blue Grass.  if i remember right, areas like Blue Grass might be outside the "scott county" area and thus taxes drop dramatically.

Iowa is much better than Illinois' pending legislation issues.  Iowa is not overly class 3 firendly, CCW depends on the county, but better than the demogogue in Illinois.

As has been said already, Iowa is much friendlier regarding firearms than Illinois is.  Things could be better here, of course, but it's better than a lot of other places.

If you're interested in the Quad Cities area, you might want to consider living in Muscatine County which is on the south border of Scott County--where Davenport and Bettendorf are.  Muscatine County is one of the few in Iowa where you can get a concealed carry permit.

Not sure where you are getting that information.   Many counties allow CCW.
According to Packing.org, something like 50 Iowa counties are virtually "shall issue".
26 counties are difficult to obtain CCW permits, and 23 are impossible.

It is virtually impossible to get a permit in Scott county.

Avoid Davenport if possible.  It's city government is very corrupt.

You cannot call the local police department and talk to anyone because their phone
is always busy.  Granted, you can call 911, but there are times you would like to
report suspicious activity that might not really be an emergency.

The Davenport police department is severely understaffed.

What is the city doing to fix the problem?

City councel threatened to lay off police and fire department employees.

The threat came after the public objecting to being taxed for rain water runoff.

City councel proposed the tax, saying federal law required it.
It was discovered it was a total lie, but the government already budgeted the new tax money
and started spending it before it was collected.  When the public objected, city councel
said that in order to make up the difference in revenue, they would have to fire police officers.

Davenport built a "sky bridge" that was supposed to lead to a riverboat casino that doesn't
even dock around it anymore.  So the multi million dollar project gave the public a bridge to nowhere.
The public said it was a waste of money before it was built, but city council thought it would
be an attraction.  Bullshit.

The city of Davenport voted and we are now being forced to have special garbage cans for
"automated" trash collection.  A special truck will be able to automatically pick up these
special trash cans, thus eliminating employees.  Sounds good, but it will never work.
These trash cans will be expensive, and subject to being stolen, vandalized, etc.

Davenport is erecting red light and photo-radar cameras at intersections across the city
as fast at they can.  The city doesn't care about the constitution, and who do you think will
feel the impact when the supreme court decides these are illegal?  Two courts in nearby states
have ruled them illegal.  But Davenport is blind because all it sees is dollar signs.

My advice is to avoid Davenport like the plague.

Eldridge is WAY to expensive.
Bettendorf is a good city, but so is Riverdale, Park View, Pleasant Valley, Princeton,
LeClaire, etc.

Born and raised in D'port, mom still  lives there.  Politics has always been a professional blood sport in that town; think of it as West Chicago.  There has always been a faint air of corruption about the place but nothing much ever comes of it.

Class III - not in Iowa.  Dealer and LEO only.  

CCW - Not in Scott County.  Some talk the legislature may change that but Vilsack would only veto.

Ranges - Oakhills Gun Club by Blue Grass, Milan Gun Club across the river (outstanding facility), Princeton Public Hunting Range (a dump, but its free), Izaak Walton League has a shotgun range by the Mt Joy airport, or used to anyway.  

Gun Shops - Nothing to write home about.  B & B in Bettendorf not bad.  Square Shooters in D'port is kind of a dump but carries a good selection of reloading components.  

Downtown is basically dead.  The gambling boats and that's about it.  Floods with some regularity but city council has refused for decades to do anything meaningful about it.  Don't want to ruin the river front ambiance.  

But for all that I'd pick Iowa over Illinois.  Stopped at a gun shop in Moline last time I was in town.  Just browsing around.  Store was plastered with signs, can't even touch a gun without a FOID.  

Can't tell you much about real estate.  Certainly better than where I live now (the peoples republic of johnson county).  The town has always had a feast or famine syndrome, depending on how well Deere, Cat, IH, the Arsenal, etc were doing.  Been more famine than feast the last twenty years.  Arsenal got clipped pretty good in the last BRAC.  IH gone, Cat gone.  Deere holding on.

    I hear you all too well, Ameshawki, try heading south a few counties to Des Moines County. With a population of only 40k-45k, we've lost a couple thousand good paying jobs in the last 5 years. The IowaArmyAmuunitionPlant fared pretty well with BRAC.
    If you're moving from Illinois, don't forget to trash all your orange and blue and pick up some black and gold on your way in.

Just drove through Dewitt for the first time this weekend.

NICE little town.

My wife says that several of her co-workers live there and love it.

It sits right on two highways.  61 and 30.  

If I could go back a year, I would move there.
