This is a list of the states that now accept Iowa Carry Permit.   So with the exception of Illinois I am good to go with my permit for the entire trip to the Mecca of Machineguns shoots,  www.machinegunshoot.com    It's good to see that some states realize the citizen's right to self defense even in the state issuing the permit does not trust any other state in the union in reciprocity.  We are gaining carry rights in more and more states all the time, now if NE would just get off thier stupid ass and try and pass decent legislation it would be good, I do not expect it to change though in the near future. Iowa should take the discretion away from local CLEOs and become shall issue to anyone who can legally own a firearm.

The only listed limitation is the one specified for residents only.  Other than that what ever limitations are on your Iowa permit carry over.

Not that I have followed it that closely, but as far as I know that nationwide CCW permit was passed restricted to only LEpersonell or retired LEpersonell authorized by thier former dept.

Plese feel free to convince me that a state issued profesional permit to carry firearms when not in any way related to LE duties that I could carry everywhere.

That would be a loophole I could definatly live with.

Iowa will issue a professional permit to any FFL holder in the country, that would mean every FFL dealer in the country could carry nationwide.

There are all kinds of people who should be carrying firearms, and if you believe that a person has a right to self defense then everyone should be carrying a gun if they want to.

Laws are not based in common sense.

You belong in a state like Iowa or Illinois because if you are scared of guns you would not make it long in places like Nebraska, South Dakota or Wyoming.

I think if you would research the statistice you would find that the areas of the country that have the least gun control laws will also have the lowest crime rates.  So more guns on the streets means less crime, not more.

Yes you are typical Iowa police, totally pro-gun for the populace as long as thier self defence is sanctioned by the local governing agency.  Your papers sir, please show me your papers. Funny how much difference an imaginary line in the dirt can make in the attitude of employees of the people.

And treating everyone you stop for speeding like they have just commited a felony just because they could possibly have a firearm in the car is wrong, the fact you can not see this attitude is wrong is also wrong very wrong.

You treat people with respect and trust untill they prove otherwise.

Is there some special training for Iowa PD that they brain wash you that the populace you work for should not be trusted?  Or is that the type of person that Iowa just naturally hires?

Ok I've got a couple things to say and will keep it short.  Just now able to get online and want to make a couple things clear that I see being said on this topic:

1) No law enforcement bashing will be allowed nor law enforcement egos.  I haven't seen either but let's just make sure this doesn't escalate out of hand, opinions are appreciated as long as they are presented with tact and merit.

2) Although David Hineline is from Nebraska he doesn't have to go back to the Nebraska HTF since this is the Iowa HTF just because he has a differing opinion of our state or its people.  Many of you met David at the last Iowa Shoot and he let you shoot many of his machineguns, but he won't back down from his views and opinions and is quite the keyboard warrior (meant as a compliment David) when it comes to being able to put his opinions on the computer screen.  There was another state that had some problems with its HTF members not liking it when others from different states would frequent their HTF and it got pretty snippy...I don't want us to even start down that path.  I frequent other state HTF's as I've got properties in other states and like to keep up what is going on when I'm not there.

That being said let's get back to getting some more discussions and topics going on as I'm thirsty for more information!

Limitations should be personal choice, not mandated by the state,  If you want to own this    you can, for now but what possible reasonable person needs a 502 CI Cadilac engine in a street bike?   It's not about need, it's about tyranny keeping you under thier thumb.  If the police/government/kings/leaders have no fear of the populace then we would all be surfs.  Regulators have but one purpose in life, to create and enforce regulations.  Every time they get a new regulation passed, guess what if they don't come up with a new regulation they are out of a job.

I want the government out of my personal life, I want to choose my hobbies/lifestyle however I choose to pursue it.

Now we need lawmen/government to keep our lifestyle from ruining the lifestyles of others, so we come up with Reasonable Comprimises, eventually we have comprimised so far that there is nothing left to give up.

Please look at Scottland, they are currently setting up legislation to require licensing and permits and registration of Air Guns, anyone who does not register an airgun they already have is subject to illegally owning a weapon.

I bet it started with machineguns first.  What reasonable person needs a machinegun, gone, what reasonable person needs a bolt action rifle capable of hitting a deer at 1000yds, sniper rifles gone, what reasonable person needs a weapon which fires multiple projectiles with a single pull of the trigger  shotguns gone,  what reasonable person needs firearms that do not meet the minimum noise requirements, silencers gone,  what reasonable person needs to decide how large a vehicle they drive, SUVs gone, what reasonable person needs a handgun which is able to hunt/kill a bear, large handguns gone.

Everytime you comprimise your standards you loose, once you loose too much then there is a revolt and you regain some if not all if not more than you lost.

The problem with Nazis is only at the top is true evil plan known, the underlings on the road charged with enforcing the laws are dupes in a grand scheme, they are not evil, they are men who do not think through the consequences of thier enforcing the law.

I don't believe in shades of grey.  Something is either right or wrong,  those who sit on the middle and call themselves reasonable moderats, are just people who can not make a commitment to an idea.

Nebraska is the final battle line protecting Wyoming from Iowa.

I feel that excersizing the ownership and use of firearms right out in the open in front of the government and liberals is paramont in keeping those that would take away our rights scared and hiding like cowering blobs of jello in corner just at the mere mention of a gun owner's name. So personally I have no problem at all complying with the current laws.  In a fantasy U.S. I would like to see a background check and information linked onto your issued ID,  simple as swiping a credit card and knowing yes you can possess firearm, no you can not any and all firearm instant purchase. While I can still choose to comply with current laws, I can understand those who are not so trusting of government.org that they can not. I want the government.org to know where I am, that I am a powerful foe in removing them from office if they get too uppety, registration does not bother me, beyond that they will turn it into another taxing scheme.

As for convicted felons and firearms, you do the crime you serve the time your rights should be restored, if you can not be trusted in the world with firearms then you should still be locked up.

Interesting points being made here...although I do appreciate the original intent of this Topic because *IF* I can get my Sheriff to sign for a CCW Permit (and I'm a Class 3/SOT Dealer!) we own properties in a couple of the states listed and I wouldn't mind some land in a couple others.  Reciprocity would be awesome while I was in the other states as I could legally carry a concealed weapon if I so chose to.
