We keep bringing up Iowa gun shoot get togethers, but they are planned so last minute that nobody can make it, and nothing gets started or done. I propose a shoot on Sun the 16th of Nov. I really don't care where at or the time but lets get this off the ground and running. Their are enuf active Ia members on here that we should have a good sized crowd, and a great time.   Lets Make This Happen

I could make a Nov. 16th shoot as long as it was somewhere in the DesMoines or closer area to Sioux City, I could definatly bring some fun that the Iowa croud is not used to.

I live 20 miles N of Des Moines I'm up to going anywhere that gets alot of people involved.

Lets do this.

We have a good range here in Tama if anyone is interested. Matter of fact, I'm probably gonna go shooting sometime this week.

IAJack typically held one of these at a range just SE of Des Moines, in Indianola...

Where's he at?

Maybe I am confused but I though IA Jack went over to the dark side at Gun-Talk

Looks like we should plan on the Weekend of the 16th.

That cool with everyone?

Good for me. Try and find a place where we can shoot machineguns. I don't care if the cops come they can just join in the fun.

My kingdom...my kingdom for a job that I don't work EVERY weekend!  Or in other words be at this job for enough years where I can either get Fri/Sat or Sun/Mon off.  Maybe I could get that day off but I've heard rumors of no vacation after Nov 15!?!  I'll wait and see where you guys have it at.

I don't have my AR yet, still deciding which model to get, but I'd be game to a shoot some where in central IA.

So do we have a location yet?

Another vote for central IA (I live in Ankeny). I should be able to make it the 16th.

Central Iowa is good for me, however I am working that weekend. I work nights so depending on where it would be, I may be able to make it for a few hours.

The only range that I know is Butch Olofson, just north of Des Moines.  It is a public range, and I'm not sure we could rent out a side of it.

The Butch Olofson has been under new management this past year or so and I'm pretty sure that they don't allow any full-auto stuff so David would be very upset if he couldn't bring his toys.  Matter of fact I doubt he'd come without his C3 stuff...right David?!

yah, i dont think the Olofson range would suit us. the guys running it are nice enough (they bent over backward to help out a group of 15 non-shooters/ first time shooters for a few rounds of trap, but thier all about safty and anything that slung more than one round downrange per trigger pull wouldnt fly.

This late in the season you might need to find a place that also rents snow shoes.

We could use Bays Branch near Yale, the only down side to this is that it only has two benches, and a small lane for a big crowd. With the use of tables it could be made to work in shift shooting. Also it is outdoors, and a free range.

The Bays Branch sounds good. I don't know how many people would be going, but I don't think it's gonna be a big crowd anyway. Do they allow non-paper targets? (like steel plates).

That seems the way to go, since all the ranges that I know of in this area are private (membership only), and don't allow guests. That's a pity, since the Ikes Walton ranges in Ames and Elkhart would be a hell of a place to go to.
