I'm interested in buying a SCAR 16 or SCAR 17, and I think the 16" barrel version would qualify it as a pistol in our state. Has anyone bought one and gone through the paces of registration? I had to do it for my FN PS90 a few years ago before they changed the laws (I had to bring it into the police station for an inspection).

I'm not sure about the OAL for the 16S, FNH's site said it was a minimum of 25", which i think is below the stupid MI AG opinion for 26"-30".

I might have to go with the 20" barrel or an 18" barrel if there is one.

So the 20" SCAR "LB" is the only one we can buy in MI?

I just checked and the SCAR 16S/17S isn't allowed in MI because of the OAL. I can't find any SCAR Long Barrels either. They need to cancel that stupid AG opinion on pistols.

On the FNH website it looks like the 16S has an OAL of 27.5".

CDNN Said they weren't legal in MI, and that a few people had to send them back to CDNN because of the OAL. They also mentioned something about the vertical forehand grip. It didn't sound legit to me, but all I need to know is the exact OAL with the stock folded on a 16" barrel setup.

I know what I did wrong, i clicked SCAR 16 STANDARD which was the 14" barrel. The 16" barrel has an OAL of 27.5" according to the site.

I called CDNN again and asked, this time they said they conducted an investigation into this and FN told them they couldn't sell it to MI. The guy this morning told me it had to do with the use of a vertical forehand grip, maybe because it is a "pistol" that if you slap a VFG it is now an AOW?

You can put any kind of VFG on it that you want to.  Federal law defines AOW,  under federal law it is a rifle, it is only a pistol in Michigan.  Why not buy from a dealer in Michigan and quit BS'in with a place that clearly doesn't want to sell you a rifle.

I don't know any dealers in MI that stock the SCAR. Know of any in Macomb/Oakland County?

If CDNN won't sell a SCAR in Michigan, by that logic they must not sell a PS90, FS2000, collapsing AR15, folding AK, MSAR, AUG, or ACR advanced to MI customers either?

Are they really doing that? I was thinking about placing an order with them...

They were adamant about it. I'm waiting on some SCAR quotes before I tell CDNN to just ship it to my FFL and let him worry about the legalities (he said it was kosher). What a PITA to buy a gun.

I'd be willing to bet that the Firing Line or just about any other dealer and order you one.   Sounds to me like you will just have to register it as a pistol in MI.   This has nothing to do with the Feds definition of a pistol, you can still put a VFG on it and you can carry it because its a pistol in MI.

Firing Line in Westland has them. A VFG on a rifle is no problem in MI, even if it's a "pistol" under state rules.

2 scar 16's bought locally and registered. And 1 heavy that had to be shipped here. All no problems.
I have heard of dealers around MI that will not sell them. Oh well their loss.
