The fucktards in Lansing decide to boost the Minimum Wage?  I think taking a class in Economics needs to be a prerequisite to serving in public office (these people already missed out on Common Sense 101).

The bill, unanimously approved by the Senate and sent to the House on Thursday for consideration, raises Michigan's minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.95 in October and gradually increases it to $7.40 an hour by July 2008.

One article found here.

So... let's get this straight:
Jobs are going to other states due to our state's heavy taxes on businesses, and our state doesn't protect workers who don't feel like joining the socialistic labor unions who have all of this state's large companies by the balls.

What's your solution?
"Well, gee... we'll raise the minimum wage!  That will make our state more appealing to employers and will give more money to the poor!"
GFG these people are stupid.  All raising the minimum wage will do is give people in shitty jobs a larger paycheck, while at the same time making all the goods cost more money.  Employers will also be forced to reduce the number of employees due to the artificially increased wages.

Let's not forget what happens when Joe Shmoe the business owner is trying to decide where he wants to start his company:
"Hrmm... well, I could locate in Michigan, where I'll be taxed to death and I'm forced to pay all my employees at least $2.00 more per hour, or... I could locate in Indiana or Ohio where everything is cheaper, I don't have to pay people artificially inflated wages and I won't be taxed as heavily."

I know... it's a difficult decision.

Now, the saddest part is, from what I've read, it was initiated by the Republicans!  Why would they throw their knowledge of economics out the window in favor of this economically regressive, "feel good" legislation?
Because they were afraid if the Democrats put the decision on the ballot.  By putting the decision on the ballot there would be increased half-witted bleeding hearts who failed economics going to the polls, increasing voters for Granholm.

It ain't the mininum wage that is killing Michigan.

We have the "SBT"--single business tax. It is a tax on the total revenue and wages, combined, of a Michigan company.

As a business lawyer I have made many a legal fee setting up employee leasing companies to take advantage of the exemptions built into the tax, which means Michigan companies which hire me or another good lawyer only pay 3% more overall to hire people in Michigan, instead of 5 or 7% more.

I can't tell you how many high skill small plants have picked up roots and moved south to Indiana. Same access to markets, same education of workforce, costs 10% less to operate.

Engler, who was an asshole with many interpersonal problems, was smart and educated enough to know the SBT was killing the state and got a law passed to repeal it a little at a time. The stupid canadian bitch loves taxes and kept the tax.

It's just election year politicing. Kiss ass, so we can win the state, yadda, yadda. Just wiat for Jen-Jen to start sucking up the credit for it. Pretty soon McDonalds, Wendy's BK, and Taco Bell will be having the $3.00 menu

Well, that's definitely the majority of it... but increasing the minimum wage is like going on a hunger strike while you're dying of cancer.  It's like they're trying to make it worse, or reduce any chance of improvement.

On the NJ turnpike, vendors selling food are on the $7 menu, yet not many people are doing anything about it.

Comparing damn near ANY state to New Jersey is like apples to oranges.  New Jersey is beyond just having stupid laws.

Like Oregon, New Jersey won't let you pump your own gas.  You're far too stupid to operate that gas pump. Leave it to the high-school drop-out who's fried his brains on acid... he's properly trained to use such dangerous equipment.

Seems to me, anyone not at minimum wage is taking a $2.25 an hour wage CUT. Don't think so: wait till you see prices rase to compinsate; if theres anyone left to sell or buy.
